To have someone like DeAngelo play for the same franchise that Wayne Simmonds put his heart and soul into, on and off the ice, is just wrong.
He’s a bad guy. The fact that someone like Hayes will sit there and defend him is not surprising. Boys club bullpoop, he’s never faced real consequences for anything he’s done. It’s a joke. Hockey is for everyone right? Yea right. We know who this game is for, it’s shown to us time and time again. It’s for guys just like DeAngelo. And Hayes. And whoever else would stand alongside this guy and say “oh good teammate. Fans will
Love him.”
I’m sure he will be popular in south Philly, just won’t be for his play so much as his attitude. Fits right in down in certain sections of South Philly….. |

Thanks for the company press release Bill. So when is the Kate Smith statue going back up? They opened the can of political correctness worms, now they have to follow through and be consistent. Why the about face all the sudden? |

Thanks for all the work and coverage, Bill.
What are your thoughts on the assets we gave to land DeAngelo?
I think we had a solid draft. Seems we went with high character players with great work ethics. Seems like we are trying to build that culture of no shifts off. Hopefully Kaplan and Bump can continue to improve and carve out NHL careers for us. |

I touched on everything involved here, ran two first-hand verbatim from players who know him (one of whom is of strongly opposite political views from TDA) and discussed the hockey side and draft pick ramifications of it as well. I put right out that I have concerns if he can produce here what he did in Carolina. Hardly spin.
Frankly, you can stick the "company press release" stuff you know where. I resent it.

The things people say. You criticize DeAngelo for the things he has said and then make an ignorant statement about S. Philly. I don't like the trade but it's for hockey reasons and not for what has happened in his past. I think players who actually know the player and have spend time with him are in a better position to judge his character at this point in his life.

Using racial slurs doesnt make someone a racist. I grew up Italian and was called a dego all the time. By friends and family as well as bumholes picking a fight.
I'm not one to use racial slurs, but using them doesn't mean anything if they're not used towards those people.
With that said, what did he say that has your butthole all puckered up? |

Was he making racist statements or anti vax and pro trump. I don’t think being a trump supporter makes you racist unless he said something I don’t recall? Racist might be claiming someone is this or that from they’re political view |

From a Carolina writer in feb when DeAngelo was just coming back from injury. Note the comment about both ends of the ice…. Enjoy
Tony has made the most of his opportunity in Carolina thus far. He has registered 9 goals and 31 assists and is 12th in scoring among all defensemen despite only being able to play in 43 games. Tony leads all Hurricanes defensemen in goals, assists, points, and plus-minus. He ranks 4th on the team in total points, 8th in goals, and 3rd in assists.
Needless to say, DeAngelo has been impressive in his first year with the club. Tony has played primarily alongside Canes alternate captain Jaccob Slavin on the top defensive pair and the two have made for a great duo on both ends of the ice. DeAngelo’s ability has been missed the most on the powerplay, which has begun to slow down in the 9 games he’s been out. |

I’m not a big +/- guy, but DeAngelo was a +30. He could be a solid partner for Provy if Provy plays more of a defensive minded game and Ellis remains out long. Really hoping Torts and Shaw can help Provy. |

I know what happened in Sarnia regarding the ethnic slur to a teammate. The information isn't public because the other party accepted TDA's apology, they mended fences and rebuilt a friendship and he prefers it to be water under the bridge. That has been respected.
The fight with Georgiev was flat out stupid. In that case, too, DeAngelo's quick temper led him to do something dumb.
He seems to understand that he's out of chances. Regarding the political stuff, he needs to keep that to himself regardless. |

Would you become a friend to a person who you thought was a bad guy? Friendships are formed over time after being around someone.

I'm far from sympathetic with DeAngelo's political beliefs, but I don't mind this trade at all. Frankly, this Flyers team has been seriously in need of a few guys with an attitude for years now. Maybe TD can help a little in that department.
Besides, if he reverts back to saying idiotic stuff, it's not like we have a rookie head coach that will lose control of the team. Torts will sit him for half the season if he has to.

The political stuff should be kept out. He is entitled to his political beliefs but should keep it out and away from the team. |

If fans knew majority of players political views they would dislike more of them. Problem with DeAngelo is he’s been very vocal and open about his. This is why most players shy away from politics |

This probably won’t make any difference to most but when Hello brought up DeAngelo last year, I looked high and low for the issues he had. Other than the temper and the political stuff, I saw nothing else.
Hopefully it is true that he shows more maturity now. There is nothing out of Carolina that says otherwise either.
