Brannstrom, Formenton and prospect seems to be too much for Marino IMO |

Finally! A new blog. I was beginning to think you were just gonna keep updating the same old post all summer.
I much prefer the Chychrun package. Even though it costs more assets, it doesn’t mess with our current lineup. I’m NOT a fan of moving Formenton. I’m also not really a Marino fan to begin with though.
P.s.
Brannstrom is 100% expendable imo. |

Brannstrom is no more than 5/6 defensemen and it would depend on the prospect. As for Formenton, I truly feel all the talk about possibly being moved has to do with the WJ issue that is being investigated. |

Sorry man, job and family....crazy busy! I agree with you on Jakob...I would rather him and Brannstrom will be lucky to get a dozen games here this year with DJ! |

My ideal day tomorrow would be acquiring Chychrun and signing Giroux. What a statement day that would be. I would be weary on term with Giroux, however.
If the price to move Zaitsev is a 2nd round pick, I am a little baffled to why it hasn't been done yet considering Dorion's moves this weeks. Hopefully, it is procedural.
Marino seems a bit meh to me, but honestly, I don't know much about him either. Weager from the Panthers seems like a better consolation prize if you don't nab Chychrun. A cheaper d-man (in terms of trade value) might not be the most awful strategy. Frankly, it's hard not to improve the defence as it stands right now. |

I am with you on those 2! Lots of moving pieces though with Dorion which is why he is weighing everything as one move starts the dominoes as they say.
Weeger will most likely get resigned but as I said on Twitter. Zito was calling Dorion the day before the draft about Weegar!

Agreed about Brannstrom
Regarding Formenton, oh poop, I see |

When Dorion was asked on the radio here last week about contract talks with each RFA....when he got to Formenton....he said nothing had started on the talks...but he had updates with talks progressing on every other player. I know many in this market found it odd!

I’m okay parting with Formenton. Gotta give to get. Don’t tell the other gm’s, but Brannstrom is completely expendable. I’d like Brown to stick around, but it sounds like his days are numbered anyway, so might as well package him to get the Dman.
Sign the Zub contract. Get this guy locked up now or it’s going to go up as the season rolls on; especially with the team improving. |

Many fans with their teams, hold their prospects in too high regard.....value them more than they are. In this case, many fans realize Branny is done here....unless their injuries....how does anyone see him suiting up especially if a top 4 D is acquired!
Like you said, to get something quality you gotta give up quality too plus its not like top 6 forwards out there...there are far more of them....than top 4 D!
Agreed, the Zub contract 100% needs to be done this summer. I have a feeling Norris ends up signing a bridge deal.

Watch for the Pens to move Marino! |

It has occurred to me that the purpose of all this frenzy of activity is to gussy up the place in the short term quickly, kind of like staging a house for sale. Absolutely zero interest in what happens two or three years down the road. Make things look as good as possible on the surface right now to facilitate maximum return on the sale. |

There's no doubt PD is looking at the next 2 years....I've had those I know in the Sens building tell me that....but lets face it, 5 years of losing and no hope.....if he goes about the next 48 hours correctly....Sens fans will have more than hope, they will be hoping for a wildcard spot come April. |

Anyone else think Scotty Bowman in hockey ops even for a year here in Ottawa would be great?! He said in his tweet that he still wants to work in the NHL! |

I would severely miss Brown/Formenton on the PK. They destroyed other teams PP... just wish they would score more on the breakaway!!!!
I hope Gustavsson does well, but at the same time, if he turns into another Bishop, I will be pissed, lol.
Things are looking nice so far; here's to more happy news tomorrow! |

Joseph and Stutzle would be just fine on the PK too...just saying....
I cant see how there isn't good news Wednesday....but they need to move that Zaitsev contract to be able to take on another salary on defense!

Sens are signing Giroux tomorrow (unless someone way overbids)regardless of dumping Zaitsev and/or making a trade. It should happen relatively fast.
Like I said previously, the Chychrun talk cooled right after the draft when Dorion decided to land DeBrincat instead with the 7th.
If I was to rank likelihood of becoming a Sen from the available defencemen I would go:
1.Weegar
2.Klingberg
3.Marino
4.Chychrun
5. Rutta

Sens need to unload the Zaitsev contract to be able to bring on the salary of a top 4 D. Klingberg, I know for a fact wants 8M AAV....so I would put him at number 5 on your list...no way this team pays him 8M! Plus Ottawa needs to lock up Zub at 4x5 or 5x5, not bring on an 8M Klingberg contract....just saying. |

That aside, Formenton is a VERY useful piece for the Sens. I would not trade him unless it was for someone like J.C from Arizona or another high caliber D-man |

He certainly is, but his name is coming up a lot lately for a reason....just saying. There's always moving pieces behind closed doors as they say.
I have some great contacts in Florida and management is feeling a lot of unrest after the Gaudreau announcement tonight.....they truly don't want the same thing happening with Huberdeau which should open a move with Weegar. Time will tell.

I'd be happy if Giroux signs, but I just don't understand why he would. I'm assuming he wants to try his best to win the cup, right? Unless he thinks Ottawa has a good shot? I dunno, I just don't see it happening, but that could be me being pessimistic. I don't see the Sens competing this year (ie 5-10 points out of a playoff spot). The year after? Maybe? Stutzle's development is what I'm most interested in seeing. I'd also love to see Joseph continue his hot streak. |
