Every time a French-Canadian player is rumored to be unhappy with his team, his name ends up being linked to the Montreal Canadiens, it never fails. - Karine Hains
Agreed, it gets tiresome.
But Montreal is not the only city with drama being manufactured by the media.
For example, the Toronto media is always fixated on their goalie situation ... every summer it's the same story. |

to be fair, in a way Dubois has created the "drama" by himself by requesting a trade from CLB and then not wanting to commit in WPG. there are habs fans that would want to trade for him but I'm not sure it's a majority. |

We probably have already discussed this before ... but I don't think I would want to give away any of our young assets at this point for Dubois.
I have nothing against him, he's a good player, but we are not ready to compete yet and his salary cap is something we just can't afford right now anyway.
Let HuGo continue with their plan, so far they seem to know where they're going. |

they're actually talking about it on TSN690 right now, Arpon Basu is saying the jets would ask for Kirby Dach lol...

*Facepalm*
On top of that ridiculous trade imbalance, I guess HuGo could also manufacture cap space out of thin air. |

I dunno but if I were Hughes I'd be trying to somehow create the necessary cap space, if that was actually what they were asking for... but it'll obviously take more than that. |

^ This is what scares me ... it would be ridiculous to undress one leg to clothe another one right now.
I don't want another Drouin/Sergatchev (or Gomez/McDoughnut) fiasco, I'd rather see what our kids can do before thinking of trading them. |

well they're likely to ask for a center in return, looking at the jets' depth chart they don't have a lot going down the middle, but then again the habs have even less, so...

Pierre Luc Dubois makes sense in a year or 2 as this teams talent poll starts to put it together, and if they think they're ready for the next step. He's also a ufa in 2 years. That's the time you look into bringing him in if a deal makes since. Until then no. End of story. |

That would mean Suzuki ... no thanks ... Nick is already signed for 6 years (and has great chemistry with Caufield) while Dubois will be a RFA in a year or 2 (I believe).
I don't see Winnipeg being interested in any of our other NHL ready centermen. |

trading Suzuki for him would be rather counter-productive, I agree. |

Exactement ...
It's Winnipeg that has a problem to solve, not us ... any good manager would use that advantage to get a better deal with them. |

I guess we'll never know lol...
anyway I can't read the article because I'm not subscribed to the Athletic, but I'd be curious to know what the logic was to conclude that Suzuki is among the NHL's top 10 worst contracts.

I suspect it is where the player is now vs where the player may be / will become.
His contract is future proofed, with the hope that he becomes something a lot more, but if he remains what he is right now and never becomes better, then perhaps that is an expensive contract for that player.
I suspect it will become a fair contract down the line.
But right now, he is perhaps not worth $7.9m per year player. |

yeah, he's 22, hasn't even reached his prime, so it just doesn't make sense to me. of course if he's already reached his ceiling in terms of offensive production it'll have been a bad contract, but to put him on this list right now simply lacks seriousness.
