Carol Schram: Jurmo, Truscott set for World Juniors action on Day 1; Lekkerimaki on Day 2
The Vancouver Canucks prospects will all be making their World Junior Championship debuts in Edmonton this week. Joni Jurmo and Jacob Truscott hit the ice on Day 1, while Jonathan Lekkerimaki will suit up to open Day 2. - Carol Schram
Great write up Carol, thanks.
I also really appreciate that you are also following the Lions, I know it's not vogue to be a CFL fan but I am and having you cover them will be a treat to read.
Looking forward to watching the WJ and hopefully Canada comes out on top like the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

Necas 2 years @ $3m per. Guess he’s not in the Miller to Carolina package anymore. |

Miller's not getting traded. It's best that he plays out his contract and walks for nothing. It's a Canuck tradition. |

Or maybe we might trade him at the TDL for like a 3rd or 4th |

If that's the best option in the grand scheme of things, absolutely.

Well done Carol.
I will admit to pretty much tuning out the CFL the past 5 years or so as the product has become almost un-watchable. Having said that this version of the Lions and Rourke have me tuning back in again and may even attend the game vs the Stamps. Seahawks are going to have some ugly years it appears so back to the Lions it may be lol. Plus the CFL games are well broadcast in stunning 4K!

He's pretty good. He'll end up getting a good look in the NFL.
The CFL is okay during the dog days, real football starts in Sept. |

Week 1 started August 5, Arsenal @ Crystal Palace. I think you mean real fake football (vs fake fake football) |

Here's my chat with Rourke as he was getting ready to start the meaningless final game of last season.
Given where he's at now, I feel like this is the sports equivalent of getting a sit-down with the lead singer of a band just before they become huge stars. The music industry is so fragmented now, it's hard to think of a recent example that would fit.
Back in my DJ days, I worked small shows with both the Tragically Hip and Nickelback before they became gazillion sellers. That's also the same kinda vibe, thinking "I think there's some real potential here!"

I saw U2 way back when they played the Commodore in 81. They weren't a very big name back then. |

Oh, I wanted to go to that show so bad! I was underage at the time and didn't have a strategy for dealing with that yet, haha.
I remember it being a CFOX 'low dough' show. I think it was $3.99 to get in??
Was it as incredible as I'd built it up to be in my head??
A few years later, I couldn't recruit any friends to see them at the Queen E in 1983. That was when I decided I'd go to concerts on my own if I had to.
Didn't see them live until BC Place, both the Joshua Tree & Achtung Baby tours. |

Yes, it was about $4 or so. Great show. Lot's of great bands went through VAN, Kiss at the Commodore 1975 for example, I was too young for that one. Used to see some great bands at the Town Pump as well.

Just 3 shifts for Joni Jurmo in the 1st period against Latvia.
Aleksi Heimosalmi started out as the 7th defenseman, but moved up into Jurmo's spot — and was on the ice for Finland's first two goals.
It's 3-0 now, early in the second. Maybe a blowout will help give Jurmo a chance to earn some ice time back?
