So Bill Guerin has $12.7mil in dead cap space this year. After the trade yesterday the Wild have over $5mil in available cap space. That team is a playoff team. Bravo Bill Guerin. Can't believe they can field a team much less a playoff team.

When chuckles was hired I said he was an incompetent GM - we now all can see how bad he is

It only took the Hayes signing to this…and the Thomas Vanek sign and buyout.

Granted, those numbers are for 12 forwards and 6 defenseman. So that number will come down unless they plan on carrying 18 players and no extras.

It will still be close to 3 million in space so your original point is very valid.

2.4 mil over the cap and not one exciting player on the roster. There should be an investigation as to the level of incompetence this takes! FIRE CHUCKLES!!

The fact that he has any space is astonishing to me. The thing is he will probably dip into FA and find a nice piece to add simply because he has cap space available. Pretty great job of GM'ing by Guerin.

I was against the buyouts because I thought the Wild would be screwed for four years. Guerin has worked around them masterfully.

It is astonishing. It shows a guy who is operating with the future ramifications of his actions in mind.

I will say this. I am convinced Ellis is not and NEVER coming back. Chuck has been operating as if this is the case for a while now. Operating as if he knows that Ellis money will be on LTIR for the foreseeable future.

If by some miracle Ellis plays this season, barring some major injury to another player he would have to do MAJOR surgery on this roster to fit him.

That is no way to do business, even Chuck knows this, as does the organization. That is why I think Ellis is done permanently.

What people seen to always not realize with the buyouts is if not made what moves and loses of players or assets would they lose if hamstrung by keeping those contracts? In a lot of cases it seems the buyout are worse is a wash or close to it. And without options if the buyouts don’t get made.

The bad teams continue to make and put themselves is excess of these type contracts more and more.

Your thinking rationally.
Cf has no plan and not rational.
Even if Ellis were to comeback at some point he would just deal with it later because he blows and has no concept of future. It’s all about now and trying to sell tix now.

Even if he were to lose an asset later because of Ellis they’d spin it. For example and blousy as example say they had to lose Laughton to make room for Ellis. Do you think philly would think twice? I don’t

Totally agree.
Capped out without even one top end let alone elite player.

You have to be a wizard to pull that off

Clue #1
When hired he says he loves what hexy built and stay the course and add.

Then why fire hexy

It is ballsy to have over $14mil in dead space like the Wild will have in 2023-2024 and 2024-2025. That is no way to operate either. However, if you have the backing of ownership and the right collection of low cost players it can work. In the end, they will not win a cup. So did they really move the needle?

They will not. I was more referring to hockey in general though. I just love the game. It's by far my favorite sport. Nothing beats it.

Yes, I am getting excited for another hockey season also, its engrained in me I guess. I feel I can enjoy this season if I see the Flyers taking a step in the right direction in terms of building back the team identity and culture, seeing some of the younger players developing into more important roles and of course watching Torts blow up a few times along the way. What I don't want is Flyers management to keep trying to fix a lemon with more trades and bad FA signings. I don't want this Flyers to make the playoffs or even get a sniff of being a bubble team. To me a successful Flyers season means building back the culture, seeing some younger players grow and gaining 2023 draft picks to take advantage of a deep draft class. Its not about this season or even next season in my mind, its about 3 or 4 seasons from now.

Still stuck on the identity and culture BS I see. More bad trades and signings? So to be sure, you no longer feel that what Fletcher did in the summer of 21 put the Flyers on a path to the Stanley Cup?

The interesting story lines to me is how the players react to Torts. Which ones step up and show they can play the way he expects and which ones falter under the pressure.

Hart, Provy, Frost are the obvious ones for me, but even players like Hayes and Risto.
