It's a small gamble but could turn into a bargain sooner than later.

I like it.

Other than being drafted 3rd, what justifies the AAV and term? So far, his top NHL highlight is having his ankles broken by Makar.

If MTL is betting on a new environment and his draft position, then ok. And, I guess, the AAV is small enough to trade him as a reclamation projection if he doesn't pan out and retain up to 50% of his contract. Still, seems rich when MTL had all the control.

That’s gonna hurt when he stinks it up. What a bad deal. I guess they don’t really care for the next couple years though. He will help them tank.

Troy Terry also signed that contract when he did only 7 ...

It's an okay contract, either Hughs hits gold or it becomes a minor nuisance.

They are really going to regret trading Romanov to get this guy.

True… but you could see the skills even then… And it’s not like he was coached by Toe Blake

Holy Jesus. Stutzle will have to improve a ton to justify that contract.

Doesn’t kick in until next year. Still have to sign Debrincat too though.

Looks like Kirby's beefed up and was able to fully rehab his wrist injury, he'll be ready to rock n roll this year. Keep doubting!

Jesus. Lots of money being thrown around at players that aren't quite proven yet this off-season.

And no signing bonuses. Still is a hell of a lot to guarantee to a guy that hasn’t proven anything.

That's a fair comment - but that IS the trend now. IF you want to sign top players for less money (which now is 7-9m) rather than paying top end $ (which is now 9-12m) then you need to sign them early.

I'll take Chabot at 8 over Seth Jones at 9.5.
I'll take Stutzle at 8.35m over John Tavares at 11 OR Tyler Seguin at 9.9.

I would've liked it at 8 but in a few years that may look like a VERY good deal, especially if he develops chemistry with DeBrincat and Giroux
