Zach Jarom: Roster Cuts and a Weekend Preview

Once a bright prospect, Evan Barret was somewhat surprisingly an early training camp cut today. While Barret has battled hard and always gets under the skin of the opponent, a lack of offensive production has me asking, how well do I know his prospect status

Surely Barret put up numbers in collegiate hockey. His skating was reportedly choppy but hey, he was going to get a couple years AHL to improve upon any deficiencies. Often there was not top line talent to play with; however, this season Barret likely has more as in quantity top line teamattes and hopefully he is put with them

I have the fear that Barret could be a wash, like Beaudin likely will shortly become. Under KD there has been a lot of compete guys who can skate drafted, even traded for. So Barret needs to prove he is a 2nd/third line swing guy who can produce some offense.

i always felt like barrett was a good NCAA but at each level up he would have less production. IMO. he is not fast, not particular big, was never really known for his hands. he was kind of a effort guy you still need a few AVG NHL type attribute's. Savoie has speed. Which is what the KD seems to wants in forwards and size on DEF with plus skating for there size.

Barratt is one of many bottom 6 forwards drafted over the years. Looks like his days with the organization are numbered. He'll be 24 in February, his ELC expires after this season, plus, as you mentioned, his lack of speed doesn't fit KD's prospect profile.

I think T. Johnson is on a line with Toews because they want them both to put up some good offensive numbers. Their trade value is questionable. But if they have decent stats before the TDL their value has to rise a little.

Same with Domi and Athanasiou with Kane.

Reichel probably starts at the Rock, but if there is an injury in the top 6 they could bring him up to play top 6 on one of these lines. Maybe they drop Raddysh down to the 3rd line.

TBH, I’d rather have De haan over Jack Johnson. CDH had some good games for Hawks, I’m thinking that their defensive system hurt him a bit, and injuries of course.

De Haan does not fit into Richardson’s system. He wants the D to get it out of the D zone, either by skating it out, or a pass. Neither are in de Haan’s toolkit. Of course it isn’t in Murphy’s either.

They both got an awakening playing against NHL players last night. They didn’t have the extra second to make a play. Not unexpected considering they are still playing in juniors.
