Considering the amount of top 10 picks your joke of a team has had and gifted McMuffin you should have at least a cup by now so keep flapping your lips , being a fan of the worst run team in pro sports is nothing to brag about !! Don’t even get me going on Nurse for 9 plus lol 😂 or the fact you can’t even ice a full roster your GM is such a joke !!

Nine seasons at below 6.5 million for this guy may be Treliving’s best move to date.

That's not saying much after he gave Huberdeau a contract that has a pretty good chance of being the worst contract in the history of sport. Weegar is also 29 in less than 3 months.

We better enjoy the next 2-3 years because they're going to be bad for a while after that. Best case scenario is they can end up like Dallas is now.

The entire team looked faster, and much hungrier on the forecheck. It was a breath of fresh air to see them sometimes start plays from their side of center ice instead of hanging around behind their net the whole time with a predictable breakout. And they didn't always rely on the stupid bump-back pass on the PP.
I also loved that they were mostly shooting first and passing second. Although that pass by Huberdeau to Lindholm was a piece of art.

It’s not a GM’s job to worry 4-5 years from now his main focus is now !! What can you do for me right now, and I see a solid 2-3 window with a legit shot at 1 hopefully 2 cups

It is the GM's job to worry about 4-5 years from now. He made an amazing trade to set them up perfectly for the now. Giving Huberdeau 25 million more than he'd get anywhere else was absurd. It was an awful panic extension that just reinforces the narrative that no one wants to play in Calgary.

That's nonsense. There are plenty of teams that have overpaid UFAs. Treliving overpays Huberdeau, a little, and now nobody wants to play in Calgary. This team has a chance to win right now and the price was potentially a couple bad contracts in 5 years. Who cares about that, they'll be after as many and as high of picks as they can get by then.

He wasn't a UFA and the Flames still have him on the team without extending him. He'd have to be even better than last year and be a Conn Smythe contender for anyone else to get even close to a 10.5 million offer next summer.

If he had faith in what he was building and players wanting to stick around in Calgary, why not see how he fits before commiting the next decade to him. Do you really think 10.5X8 wouldn't get it done next summer? Especially since another 100 point season isn't likely. Florida balked at giving him 9X8.

You don't know if Fla balked at 9/8, he was over a year from being UFA. They'd barely started talking. No doubt it's at least $1million more in Calgary to make up for tax rates and possibly more for travel and weather. So maybe $1.5 more is the market in Calgary. Huberdeau is an elite playmaker and when you get a chance to lockup elite talent you do. Who knows what things might be like in a year? Apparently the cap is likely to go up significantly so he may be worth more. Waiting a year on Gaudreau is what got Treliving in that mess in the first place.

The reports were that they were discussing an extension, Huberdeau was asking for 9 million, and the next time they called back, he was traded.

I don't care how much the cap is going up. No one else was offering a 30 year old Huberdeau 10+ million next summer. Realistically, Huberdeau is probably going to be somewhere in the 70-90 point range this year. How happy will you be to double his salary if he's closer to the 70 point mark?

That's just speculation. What we do know is Tkachuk came available and Fla paid Calgary's price. And again, you don't know what another team would pay for Huberdeau. He led the league in assists and if he does anything similar, somebody would throw a lot of money at him. I acknowledged Calgary overpaid by probably 1.5 so there it is. Calgary got their top line playmaker and spent a lot for it.... but that contract doesn't mean nobody wants to play in Calgary.

All this chatter boils down to one simple fact. The best overall "value" comes from the draft. Period!
Having said that we have the makings of a competitive team for the next several years. So how about we enjoy living in the NOW!

If they're not worried about players wanting to play in Calgary, what's the risk of waiting until you see how he fits in Calgary? They can still outbid anyone after the season. Someone would have to give him 12 million a year to match the money.

Compare that to the massive risk of giving a 30-year-old an 8-year $84 million contract, with 75% of it being bonus money, before he's ever played a minute of hockey for you or really even spent time in your city.

Let me get this straight—we break a 12 year opener losing streak, emphatically, and the chatter seems centered around how much or little we overpaid Huberdeau et all?

Treliving found himself in a bind with two low character stars wanting to flee to markets more geared towards meeting lifestyle needs than winning, so he goes out and brings in 3 high quality players to replace them, and people are having issues with that?

Enjoy the win guys and let's see if Tre's seemingly masterstroke off-season bears fruit.

I, for one, am happy to move on from guys who reliably disappeared when the stakes were highest.

I hear you!!! Unfukingbelievable! Who cares if we paid Huberdeau a bit more that what he may have gotten on the market. Barzal has done nothing even close to what Huberdeau has done & got 9.15 mill. You'd think these guys were writing the cheques themselves. Yeah keep saying to wait & then another team ponies up & they leave & then criticize how they got such an overpayment & all GM's are stupid. Yep, meantime we are wanting for some star to emerge out of these prospects. Just enjoy having a good team for a change.

Too many GM’s out there. I don’t give a crap how much we have to pay. Like you said enjoy the season, worry about next year, next year.
