Leafs are fine, doing much better than the start of last season and Sammy hasn't given us a reason to not give him a chance right now.

Leafs do need to tighten things up but that also was third game in 6 nights and we were bare minimum roster too. Fatigue was likely also playing into it. We managed to win so take the two points get ready for monday. The bonus here though is with Murray out ltir we now have a full roster with Robertson and Simmonds up front and Mete on the back end. Honestly pretty ok with running Samsonov-Kallgrens in net too.

We start rolling along might have to Tanya Harding Murray and send to Robidas Island

Agree. Good post.
Think we're gonna be really happy with Sam in net.

Kind of wondering if Murray was not 100% to start the season. So maybe the plan was to get him on LTIR anyway. Playing the first game would erase any suspicion.

Clever move Kyle if so.

Not a chance Leafs knew about an injury. At about $4.7M cap hit, not looking like a good move. Leafs have only temporary cap relief with Murray on LTIR. Leafs will have to move out a non-minimum salary when Murray is back - probably the giraffe. I am interested to see if Robertson replaces Malgin on JT's line for the next game.

While Malgin hasn't been terrible.. he's certainly not generating anything on his own. They should give Robertson a shot for a few games early in the season.

Also glaringly obvious how much better lliljegren is than Sandin DEFENSIVELY.. based on play down the stretch last year.

Agree on both. Robertson has significant upside and Liljegren much better than Sandin IMO. Sandin was probably the worst d-man last night. Liking the Samsonov signing alot.

Not just defensively but offensively as well. Liljegren was on a 31P pace if he played 82 games last year while Sandin was only at a 25P pace. Needless to say I’m truly looking forward to Liljegren getting back and making Sandin the 7th.

Are you aware of any limits to putting players on the LTIR? Specifically Vegas is currently sitting at $96.557M cap hit with $14.057M on LTIR. Is there a limit on how much salary can be put into LTIR? Accruable cap space could conceivably happen for Vegas if say Jack Eichel went on LTIR. Can they put $30M on LTIR without breaking any rules? It's interesting that Vegas could add Lehner, Weber and someone else to the playoff roster legally if they make the playoffs.

I sincerely don’t know… I would imagine there’s no limit tho, since I doubt the NHLPA would sign on otherwise… but admittedly that’s a flat out guess

Doubt they sit down a centre. He's been better than expected since his arrival. If Robertson draws in, likely to replace Malgin, who has been OK. Nylander and JT have been very good so far. The goal last night by Nylander was amazing. Robertson is not suited to be on a checking line, ditto for Malgin.

Opens the door to some serious monkey business by Vegas this year. That rule has to be modified.

I don’t see them changing the Kampf line at all. Robertson can slot in for Malgin when he plays

Kampf has been below average without Mikheyev 4% and 9% in expected goals in 2 out of 3 games so far.

Kampf out shot 5-1 game 1

4-4 game 2

Out shot 8-3 game 3

Not a strategy for success IMO

There’s no limit because it’s driven by injuries and players being unable to play. You can’t be put someone on LTIR unless the team doctor determines you can’t play for the set number of days/games. The league has the right to challenge that determination by having a neutral doctor review the team’s decision. So, it’s really impossible to put a limit in it.

What are the numbers for the rest of the line? I thought they looked good. They also seemed to have a bunch of shifts against the top line.

Kampf is a fourth line centre, he's -1 on the season and he's scored a GWG. If he is close to even, he's done a fine job in non-PK minutes. He's one of the main PK guys on the team, no way he sits IMO. If Robertson draws in, it will be for a spot on the top six. Shots against is not surprising seeing that he plays on the PK and the Leafs took five straight minor penalties against Washington (one of the dirtiest teams in the League - just ask a Habs fan)
