Thanks for the blog Trevor, wasn't able to watch the game last night. With Markstrom do you think its just a confidence issue right now or there might be a undisclosed injury?

I'd say it was more of a slew foot than a knee.

Might be a bit of both. Markstrom has a pretty extensive injury history.

If the Flames didn’t give up two even strength goals in the 3rd, you wouldn’t have had to write a “woe is us” blog this morning. Your lack of power play opportunities would've been a moot point.

What’s more, the zebras missed more than one Flame infraction as well, including this rather blatant high stick.

https://twitter.com/Isles...tatus/1589806711594176513

Lastly, while the Flames average only 3.18 power play opportunities per game (10th place for fewest opportunities in the NHL thus far this season), the Islanders only average 3 (6th fewest).

It goes both ways.

The first period was rife with uncalled infractions. The Isles got away with far more, but that just my opinion. Taking out Markstrom’s leg was an easy call. As a dirty beer league winger, I can attest to that.

Good luck in Tampa tonight. Even though Campbell is starting, I’m still tempted to bet on the Oilers winning.

Kadri bear hugging Pelech and throwing him to the ice right in front of the ref behind our net comes to mind. Romanov high sticked behind your net then has to go to the funny room for concussion protocol after laying on the ice for a trainer. Just one of the many uncalled infractions that occurred.

Flames came out strong and couldn’t hold it together for a full 60. Huberdue said exactly that. Islanders stunk it up for the first 40 mins while Sorokin kept them in it and got it together for the third. Flames didn’t have an answer in the third. Period.

In other words give me a break.

How many days has it been since Cizikas got fined for goaltender interference? Has it been a week yet?

I like watching the Isles, but zero penalties is pretty messed up. The refs could have called three a piece if they’re just arbitrating anyway.

Thanks Trevor.
All this finger pointing of uncalled infractions only strengthens your point. These two duffusses shouldn’t be reffing in the NHL.
The non call on the Markstrom hit, slew foot, knee was a blatant missed call that should have put the Flames up 4-3 going into overtime.

I also thought it was a penalty. But I also wasn’t shocked that there was no call. NHL officiating is far too inconsistent for any level of surety.

That said, the Flames didn’t lose this game solely due to the zebras. They lost because the Islanders took it to them in the 3rd. Therein lies the actual cause.

And hey, I get it. The Isles have been in the bottom five for power play opportunities awarded at least three years running. While it sucks, good teams shrug it off and get the job done at evens.

This is just fantastic... Anyone who watched that game and came away with.. "The Refs screwed us" is absolutely kidding themselves..

If An Islander did this it would have been a 5 minute major and a game misconduct.

https://twitter.com/Isles...&t=_WeJcAHo-nycAVY5czUt9w The ref was standing right there looking at this and didn't make a call.

Comparing that to this dive by Markstrom is a riot. https://twitter.com/WallM...&t=_WeJcAHo-nycAVY5czUt9w

Want to know why you lost? This is why.. your goalie let in a shot from this far out without a screen. https://twitter.com/Isles...&t=_WeJcAHo-nycAVY5czUt9w

https://twitter.com/Isles...&t=_WeJcAHo-nycAVY5czUt9w another angle...

Thanks Trevor. Good blog.

The Flames had a couple of chances that could have won the game in the first couple minutes of the overtime. Need to bury those.

But these tough loses are all part of team building. Need to find ways to win and not ways to lose.

Go Flames!

You either take Hockeybuzz way too serious or you have way too much time. Either way, this post tells me you live in your mom's basement.

You’re right that non call is why the Flames lost. That was an embarrassing dive by markstrom. Seriously watch it again.

Glad to hear you are exactly how I remember you.

All is well on my end.

Are your Islanders going to make some noise this year? I cannot tell if my Flames have what it takes to get out of the first round.

Dunno. If they stay healthy, then yeah, I think they make the playoffs. After that, no clue.

The Flames will be fine. It’s gonna take time for Huberdeau and Weegar to acclimatize, but it will happen eventually.

Markstrom needs to stop his 18/19 Talbot impersonation though.
