Not with this defense and Casper Kallgren in net.

Kallgren wasn't very good against the Pens, but the lack of effort from the forwards was the biggest issue IMO. Lazy lard ass effort by the forwards. You want to get somewhere you have to pay the price, and they simply didn't and didn't appear to be willing to. 22 SOG for the pens with an empty netter. SV% of .864 is putrid. Everything said hard to win with a poop goalie, team plays tight and without confidence. Also demoralizing when you cough out a lung to get a goal and a long range floater by the opponent finds net.

A pair of miscues by Justin Holl allowed Pittsburgh to take the lead, as Evgeni Malkin tied the game late in the first and big Russian blew by the Leafs defenseman to set up Jason Zucker for the go-ahead marker.

That $2 popcorn doesn't have to be good, just eat it. No point in getting $3 popcorn that tastes good.

Kalgren played as expected. But agreed the offense simply was there.
Entertaining game though imo

I'm curious as to why Kallgren is scheduled to play again tonight. SEGABABA gods be damned.

That's been the story for years tho, as the forwards go so does the rest....because the D and G have been too weak for years and don't "steal" us any games.

D doesn't score much or defend well and G doesn't make that crucial save when needed.

Rarely have we seen 1-0 wins by the Buds.

I don't get why warning shots aren't being fired, even little ones. Don't get why Dubas, in a contract year, isn't trying harder.

Get rid of Engvall, one of the laziest and softest forwards I've seen in the NHL. Worthless. Don't even need a replacement, we have players, just make him gone and get the Cap hit back.

Get rid of Holl, and replace him with a $3.5m RHD with the savings from losing him and Engvall.

Use Muzzin's LTIR cap savings for a bad ass LW to go beside M/M or JT/Willie.

GET TWO GUYS THAT HIT AND PLAY HARD. No more soft, nifty, small (frank)ers. NONE.

Then Bunting gets demoted to Engvall's winger spot. Message sent.

LW, Matthews, Marner
Robertson, JT, Nylander
Bunting, Kerfoot, Jarkrok
Malgin, Kampf, ZAR

Rielly, Brodie
Sandin, RHD
Gio, Lily

Murray
Samsonov
(hopefully one stays healthy)

Just those two little tweaks could go a long way in improving the team, the D, the morale and should light a fire under the rest.

If that doesn't work, Keefe out and Trotz in.

If that doesn't work, Dubas out, step up and take the heat for a change Shanahan and make a tough move or two with the core.

If that doesn't work gut and start over.

If that doesn't work the team is cursed.

The biggest issue in terms of a possible trade is to find someone who can play LW on one of the two top lines. Kerfoot and Robertson aren’t adding anything right now. Maybe Bunting can start to click again with Matthews/Marner. I put that way ahead of trading for D that aren’t giving many goals with the #4 goalie in net

From Luke Fox on Twitter:

Goals scored by Maple Leafs in games in which Erik Källgren has appeared: 2, 3, 3, 2, 3, 3, 2.

That's not enough support by a supposed high-flying offence to help out a $750,000 goalie under pressure.

Agreed. LW was a concern in the summer now it's definitely an issue.

I just think the D has not been solid enough...ever...especially for the Fab 4's inconsistencies.

RHD and LW in that order for me.

But I'll take a LW and then an RHD....either way, can just two tiny fixes get done please Dubas. Lame duck mother(frank)er!

Edit: bolded should be the death knell for Dubas this year, two questionable goalies for a "contention" season, especially if he does nothing else.

How about you get past it, stop with this type of post and move on.

It’s a new blog and a new day.

I didn’t delete this post, however the next post you make speaking negatively about how we moderate will result in a deletion at a minimum.
