Even though I want him very badly on the Kings, the Oilers really need to call NYI and see if they can get Ross Johnston to protect McDavid or Philly to get Deslaurius. That knee was brutal by Weeger and no one did anything. Should never happen, ever.

I watched the game also and saw something quite different. 50% of the shots taken by the flames were from the outside or from the blueline with a hope of a deflection or a scramble recovered puck for a secondary shot. Kelly Hrudey even said that in his commentary, and he was not very flattering to the Flames with that technique. Sometimes look at the results of the play and not just the stats.

On the Weegar incident, if someone challenged him to a fight he would just turtle and that would prove nothing. The issue is with the officials. Not even a 2 minute penalty for tripping which it definitely was. Oilers as a team would rather have a 2 or 5 minute penalty than a poorly handled fight.

Don’t believe that is the need. Lucic was on the ice for the Oilers when McDavid broke his collar bone from the Manning hit. They don’t need an enforcer or a fighter. What they do need is for the rest of the team to start acting like a team.

They are playing as a team, with success some games and not others. They should have won several games just before the break, but the goal keeper player for the opposition teams played excellent and that was the difference: the ducks and canucks games.

I agree the Oilers were lucky to win. I agree Nurse was not great, looked bad to my eye.

But.

The knee incident. Should have been a penalty on principle but, I don't think a major.

On one of the angles the principle point of contact seemed to be the shoulder. Aka the knee hit but was not taking the brunt of the collision.

If that was the case it's not actually kneeing. I am hoping that was the case and McDavid was telling everyone. Because if that was a kneeing yes I would expect a response from the team.

And it's the high danger scoring chances that I noted and felt were lopsided towards the Lames. But everyone saying the shots were from the perimeter are also correct. The Flames were just desperate for a lucky goal and we're chucking volume shots on net.

Reality will settle in Vegas as it will for LA and SEA as well. Vegas still has excellent depth for reg. season but not a deep PO team at all. Much like the Bruins in the East reality will choke them out of the PO's 1st-2nd round most likely. Boston may 'fluke' themselves to the CF but really TBAY and TO will be tough out east. Look for TO to move into round 2.

Not overly worried about EDM-CGY. They will move up as SEA and LA come down. STL could be coming around too.

This 11 game stretch will tell us where the Canucks are at. Not a dog amongst any of the clubs they play in this 11-game stretch. This is it for them either they stay in the WC hunt or drop out for Bedard. Plus the Horvat-Miller situation isn't helping. Rumors again have Miller going to NYR which means Horvat will stay. But it's looking as though they can't keep both and Miller would be the likely candidate to get traded. Gonna be a fun new year.
