The Hawks had a great run with Toews and Kane, but all good things come to an end. It was time to move on from #19 and #88, it was happening now or at the end of this season (granted, the timing for Toews is still not certain).

We all would have liked more for Kane, but the Hawks already have a good stable of prospects and picks. Will picking #61 vs #28 this year (ie late-1st vs late-2nd) if the Hawks got a 1st instead of a 2nd sped up the rebuild much? No. Fans should focus on moving forward, with the prospects and picks the team has.

Was that Laz and Powers reporting, or just their usual "this is how I see it" BS? I refuse to listen to or read them, so I'll leave that for others to answer. I can't take either of them seriously when I hear things like "if they don't get Bedard, this plan is a failure". Having the worst record in the League only gives you ~25% chance at the first pick. Only 8 teams since 2000 have kept the 1st overall pick when having the best odds.

Buncha puds.

IMO Kane definitely knew at draft day when ADB and Dach were traded that he was leaving, so he was going to stick it to Davidson, which explains how the TDL went down.

Great hockey memories, but unfortunately for me the petulant child acting never did leave right up until the end.

Have you been day drinking DK?

This is going to stay right up there with the Danault and Timonen trades in terms of mileage.

Couple things dont add up. To me sounds like Kane had decided weeks ago he wanted to be a Ranger and KD was trying to get best possible deal from Rangers which he should do. Think Rangers threw a wrench in things when they signed Tarassnko and at that point were out on Kane. Thus the reaction of disappointment by Kane when he heard of Tarasenko deal. Rangers were moving on filling other needs but Kane pushed KD to get him to Rangers. The Kane to Rangers was going on for weeks prior to Tarasenko move. Think KD just misread things this the low return. Either way he did Kane a solid and hoping he signs a team friendly deal to stay. Good luck with Bedard hope you get him kid looks like a generational talent

KD didn't misread things, Kane after the draft day deals decided hee was going to stick it to Davidson, and he did by being "torn" about leaving until KD lost all leverage. I am sure Brisson had a big hand in it too.

Hate to say it but it gives me a touch of wonder if Toews is not well enougt to play, or did Brisson have his hands on this so KD could not get a return on him at the TDL either.

“Kyle Davidson’s hands were tied.
Kyle Davidson’s hands were tied.
Kyle Davidson’s hands were tied.”

That’s all I hear. But they weren’t. Not totally. He just didn’t want to play hardball. His call. So the return for Patrick Kane was just meh.

the top 4 guys in this draft are rated about the same as a #1 in a few recent drafts. So finsihing last you get your pick of 2 of them. thats way bigger then When it was Dach, Turcote or Bryam at #3.

2 project as top 10 wings in the league and 2 project as top 10 centers in the league.
this is the year to tank because at worst you are projected to get a all star.

my guess is all would go # 1 in 20-22. Jack hughes is the last guy that rated out with these guys

Well, hopefully the Chicago Icehogs can do what they can to give us a very good shot at Bedard. However, I am looking forward to watching Reichel if and when he does get recalled. Plus, I don't think KD is done...I assume Domi, AA, and Stalock are the most likely shipped out by Friday. Stack up on some more early-to-mid round picks.

If we do end up with Bedard, I think it cuts about 2-3 years off the rebuild and it will allow KD to go after more top/middle-6 forwards and a top-4 pairing LHD in Free Agency. Also doesn't rule out the possibility of Kane returning, however, I think now that the band-aid is off you just let him go for good.

If we end up with Fantilli or others, I expect the 4-5 year rebuild to continue on course with KD using a similar approach to the off-season as last year with middle/bottom-6 forward and bottom-pairing dmen type of signings.

At the end of the day, you gotta commend Richardson for the work he and his staff have done this year with a JV roster. He seems like the right guy to usher in the new era of Hawks hockey. The next few years should be exciting for us fans.

You would know better you have seen it unfold from the draft. Have to admit those Debrincat and Strome moves really put it to Kane and Toewes . Sounds like some hard feelings there both ways. Do you feel Kanes links to living in NY is going to motivate him to accept a team friendly deal or will he do like most and go to highest bidder

I just don't think Kane wanted to leave. KiD was you gotta go man you're not part of our future.

I was way more disappointed he traded and let go our 20 something year olds than 34 year old star. Kane is great and always will be but it was time for him to go.

I get it KiD wants to start fresh and even though i was disappointed with those 20 something year old trades, i am excited about all the ammo he's stocking up, and we are talking about premium ammo, 5 years unfortunately will be here before I know it, and am excited to watch this unfold, if he does well drafting and is patient this team can not only be very very good but deep with talent throughout.

Highest bidder (within reason of course, he isn't going to Arizona). The NHLPA wouldn't have it any other way.

Of course with regional sports contract troubles, the economy, again the lofty goals of Bettman and the cap is a farce, so as is the case of the middle class of the NHL (i.e. Brandon Saad gets less in his last contract than the one before even though he is in the prime of his career) all are going to get squeezed. Interesting during COVID, the league and the players extended the length of the agreement to 2025-2026.

I don't think he cared. However, although Kane said his girlfriend supported her, she is leaving a big (5 siblings and parents) who have roots in Chicago. That is a big support system she will not have in New York, so I think Kane gave that a nanosecond of a thought.

Kane is married to hockey. Ever hear him have any other outside interests? Any community work? charitable organizations? Anything that would cement HIS ties to the community? He did play in a Denis Savard celebrity HOCKEY game once

Then there really isn't much to discuss. Davidson was smart to get something even if it is low value.

As some have said, it’s sad to see Kane go but more because he, along with a few others, represented the best period of Blackhawk hockey. I’m sure KD could have played hardball and chose not to trade him because of the terrible return but there will be plenty of time to make New York pay, when they get in cap hell. For now those days are behind us and I think all we can do now is get behind KD and his rebuild.

Kings trade Quick +2023 1st for Gavrikov and Korpisalo. Wonder if CBJ tries to flip Quick and retain? Not sure he really has much value.

Hoping Domi gets us something but beyond that, don’t think there is much on Hawks anyone would have interest in.

Not necessarily in players but the Hawks have cap room should a team need to use some of that either to take on another bad contract or to broker a deal.

If you read Kane's parting statement he says "...this decision puts me in the best spot to immediately win another Stanley Cup...." (I put in the bold italics)

Me and immediately. It reads as if it's all about him. I suspect after this season he will go to a contender that offers the best deal.
