As the #redwings close in on an extension with captain Dylan Larkin, it sounds like the eight-year extension will come in north of the $8.5M AAV Bo Horvat recently got from the #isles

(bump from the last blog, since we're talking about Gurianov...)

oh it's all good, everyone is entitled to their opinion, I haven't seen him play yet but I eventually will.

what I'm curious about is what they do after this season, even if he makes a really good impression during these 20 games that is still a very small sample size to match the 2.9M qualifying offer to retain his rights (although it says on capfriendly that "a two-way qualifying offer is permitted since Gurianov has not met both the games played and waivers requirements", so I'm not sure if this makes it less risky/more enticing for the habs to do so...).

In no* way is Gurianov an insurance policy for Anderson.

2 different styles.

Easy. Qualify him, play him, move him or keep him next season depending on how poop goes.

ok, well I have no clue how qualifying offers work... if he sucks next year, aren't they gonna be stuck paying the guy almost 3M? not the greatest plan.

Then sign him for cheaper? Or let him go. If he's truly poop, they can just not sign him. I think the best thing is to get a 1 year deal whether it's the qualifying offer or cheaper and then make the decision next season. Habs don't have a ton of guys knocking on the doors in the forward group and will be selling again.

Yes it is ... it will depend how he performs I guess and if the Habs brass thinks he could be a valuable asset for the direction they want to go in the future.

Yeah ... and 8 years contracts are totally demented.

We just have to look in our own backyard and see how we're stuck with long immoveable contracts.

I thought making a cheaper offer wasn't an option because of the QA. I hate the salary cap and all of the financial implications, so like I said I barely know jack poop about this stuff.

You can sign him to anything, just like Timo Meier, they need to accept it, or they can exercise their qualifying offer status. So if he's bad offer him a 1 year at 1.5 or something, if he says no and wants his QO, then you can either move on or sign it and see how it goes.

ahh I see, thanks for the clarification. I thought the QA had heavier implications than this, doesn't sound too bad lol.

We'll see how HuGo handles it ... I could see them giving him a "show me" deal (1 year or so). Show me that you deserve another contract.

I really don't have a clue what they have in mind to be honest.
