Petry actually isnt a guy i'd just dump. I think he can be a solid player, but he needs to stay healthy. He showed signs of it last year, but i think more than anything those injuries just ruined his chances last year. He seems like one of those guys who needs to build some confidence and string some games together to play to his abilities.
For cap reasons, if you can replace him with someone younger/cheaper, fine. |

I'll give you a slightly used Rasmus Ristolainen for him. Both younger and cheaper. |

They're probably stuck with Petry. Watching these playoffs, NYI still can't score. Maybe explore 2024 UFA trades. Guentzel to NYI for Sorokin. |

Then the Pens won't be able to score.
For a team that was 16th in the NHL in goals for, trading a 35+ goal scorer isn't that smart. Obviously you'd try to replace his goals somehow, but I just don't think that's it.
Swayman should probably be their main target if the goal is to acquire through trade. Might have bundle some picks together to Boston for that, will Boston accept? Who knows. |

I think its going to be hard to find another goalie in the trade market given how asset light we are. To me, you get Jarry to sign a 2-3 year bridge deal and go find a 1b. Dump DeSmith and find a backup you can actually have faith in. |

Honestly, I feel like I want a completely new tandem.

Problem with Petry's contract is he gets paid $7.5 million this season. Much less his final year. You're going to have to wait for the Penguins to eat his signing bonus and pawn him off to a team that can take the $6.5 million cap hit with a base salary of $4.5 now.
And I agree that you can't give him up for free. We need something in return. I realize it's not going to be much but something. A prospect? Pick?
Then sure, go after Kiingberg and do not complain when he's on ice for goals against as long as he's helping score more than we're giving up. |

If my options are Petry, Klingberg, or Shattenkirk, I'm keeping Petry. Not that he's any better than the other two. It's they aren't any better than him.
Money is close to a wash, Petry ($6.25), Shattenkirk ($4.95), Klingberg ($7).
What's more important is how is Sullivan going to adjust his coaching. We don't have a speed team, haven't had one in a while. We tried to out speed, outscore teams this year. It didn't work. |

The last part is more correct than anything being discussed this off-season. Biggest disappointment so far is Sullivan not being let go. He did a terrible job with the lineup that was placed infront of him. |

Me too. I was probably his biggest supporter throughout the year around here and even then I know he wasn't playing up to his 6+ mill cap hit. I think that other teams would want the Pens to retain salary if they traded for him. Then you have to find a RD thats as good as him with their cap hit + his retention. I dont know about that. I do know that some players look a lot better with their new teams in the 2nd year. He and Petts were very, very good in that November to January run...then he was injured again. Came back and had like 12 points in 16 games...then injured again. |

I like the ESPN intermission crew of PK, Messier and Chelios better than any of the Canadian broadcast crews. The host is good too.. Cant think of his name at the moment haha

The Penguins tried to go the get bigger and tougher to play against route and it stunk.
Hex and Burke may have stated this as a goal but we didn’t actually do this. Our big deadline acquisitions were Granlund and Bones for crying out loud. Listen, I’m not in favor sacrificing skating and skill for some nebulous idea of Tom Wilsoniness, but you can’t say that something that was never tried didn’t work. |

Tough is more of a team concept that a big guy who hits. That 08-09 team was tough, but it wasn't just because Brooks Orpik hit 3 people in 30 seconds. Every guy was on the same page and they all had each other's backs. Sure, you had guys like Cooke and Goddard (who played no playoff games) that could fight, but it was more about how the team played hard overall and no one took the easy road. |

Again I think those days are long gone. I dont follow hte rest of hte NHL much but just use the Flyers and Caps for example. They use to be hard fought games any time of hte year. Now its just another game. You could bank on shenanigans and it was a blast to watch win or lose but today the game is just too structured. Even when they play the Caps I dont feel Wilson has a factor anymore.
The Blues cup team was a pretty tough team and had some size but I think most of those guys are at the end of their days.
I love players like Kunitz. Could score but also lay a game changing hit. Pens have 0 of those guys. |

Hextalls 1st red flag was how he handled the expansion draft. I didn't pay much attention at the time but LOL WTF was he thinking?
Trade McCann for pennies and protect Carter?
Protected Kap, Blueger.
Left Zucker and Petterson exposed....Imagine if SEA picked them up and how bad they'd be today. Dodged a bullet there. |

They wouldn't be bad at all. Zucker was f'n great this season and Petts was arguably the Pens best defender. Petts is way too underappreciated around here IMO.
McCann had a crazy good season...shooting 19% being used on top PP and 1st line. He wouldn't of been used on Pens top PP, or 1st line, probably not in top 6 at all. Perhaps here and there in top 6...he may of shot 19% though, may not of...this isnt to say I think the Pens wouldn't be better off with him than Carter haha, they totally would be with him.
Crazy that two of the guys he protected he got rid of...waived Kap and traded Bluey. It all just reeks of incompetency hahaha |

I never thought the Flyers-Pens games were "tough" to be honest. They were fight filled and hard-hitting, but they were also wide-open fire wagon contests at times too. That's not "tough" to me, although hits and fights are an aspect to it.
I'd say a tough team would be the Bruins. Also the Canes or the Rangers. Again, I wouldn't say there's any one specific guy who's a big hitter (Trouba, maybe), but they're just a pain in the ass to play against, and you know you're going to have to fight for every inch.
I'm not saying tough means everyone fights and hits, just that you are going to make sure the other team is exhausted after playing against you. And when the other team rolls into town, they knew they're not going to get anything the easy way because they're gonna be on you. |

Host is Steve Levy. I agree, they do a solid job. I think some of the broadcast crews like Leah Hextall and John Buccigross leave a lot to be desired and I dont like listening to them, but all in all the intermission reports are solid.

For your goalie, would Offer Sheeting Swayman make a lot of sense? Say 5 x $4.2M. It would only cost you a 2nd round pick. |
