I think everyone knows, and for quite sometime I might add, that Nylander was going to be traded. Not really news anymore. Ill guess Chicago or Columbus

Leafs def at a weakness here and the biggest beneficiary is Nylander. He proved he can produce and continue to get better this playoff. So someone will pay him. The return will be weaker than expected but I wouldn't think it will be as low as just a 7th. It will be a roster player and picks. Kaliyev or Tolvanen.

Sounds like most of the posters here are sobering up from the week-end.

Is it possible that Shanny is simply fielding calls to track interest in Nylander and get a basic sense of what other GMs are offering. Somebody has to do this. It's reactive, not proactive.

But any actual trade will get completed by the new GM. Welcome to your new role as GM. Here is the Nylander file with detailed notes of all the calls that I fielded over the last month. You're the GM now. You can call these guys back and continue those discussions. You are also free to sign Nylander to an 8-year extension and maybe trade Matthews or Marner or nobody. Go do your job.

But I highly doubt that Shanny is racing to trade Nylander prior to hiring his GM.

I’m sure Shanny isn’t “racing” to trade Willie. But if an offer came across the table that he can’t refuse, well you don’t have to be a rocket scientist if it’s fab! And the Leafs have assistant GMs that still work there and are well paid, I’m sure they are quite capable of handling it.
