Love the hire- the more I look into it, they brought a guy who develops and has an idea of what structure is and means-
Interested to see if he keeps the Asst. Coaches or brings in new.
As far as Gibby goes - plenty of options for us to garner some assets back - |

Pittsburgh might do something. They're stupidly in win-now mode and have so many bad contracts as it is, why not add another one to the pile? I just wonder what would come back. Getting Marcus Pettersson back would be nice. |

They'll probably have to retain some serious salary for whomever decides to give him a shot. |

It's an interesting hire, not sure on him and if good or bad but anyone is going to be so much better than Eakins so...
Gibson wanting out isn't that big a shocker. I think Ducks can and will move him. Plenty of movement with goalies coming and while numbers aren't good he hasn't had a great team in front of him either. Be very interesting to see how they handle the request and what they can get for him. |

Marcus would be ok.. but we need more offensive firepower at this point.
I'd like to see the Kings for player and pick or picks or to the East. Jersey would be a nice trade partner here... They desperately need a good goalie.. TO also a possibility - Ottawa also.

Looking at the photo of Cronin in the Ducks press release, my first thought was that Dallas Eakins couldn't look that intense if he tried. From everything that has been written and said the last 3-4 days, he sounds like the anti-Eakins. If he can install a team defensive system that the young players can adapt to and execute, it will be a big win.
If they can find a place for Gibson to land, that would be another win. Looking at the goaltending in Pittsburgh, Edmonton, Buffalo, and a half dozen other places that want to be contenders, PV should be able to make something work. |

Nurse and a second - rubberduckies
I don’t want that knucklehead or that contract…
The oil got nothing for us - short of RNH - |

I'm curious to see where and for how much goalies are going to bring this year. I keep reading that the modern analytical trend with GM's is to NOT invest big money to goalies anymore. If that holds true, moving Gibson without having to retain salary may prove to be extremely difficult. |

C'mon dude! Zelleweger and Mintykov are coming, along with Fantilli! The Ducks need to keep the puck out of the net. Don't forget, Gibby's got a modified NTC. He MIGHT waive it but definitely not for Toronto or Edmonton. |

A simple D system implementation by Cronin will make us substantially better right off the bat-
We need to score - we have 1 legit RW -
Jones and Comtois are bottom 6 guys at best - Rico is suited for the 3rd line - Silf is trash - Vatrano is ok - Strome maybe 2nd liner -
Our D will be much better - |

Can’t see the Pens going for that … - dozerD10
Shedding Granlund is gonna cost something.
Ruutta helps fill the right side of an Anaheim blue line devoid of any RHD beyond a bounce back would be Sophomore in Drysdale and zero veteran presence.
Poulin’s perceived value is higher than his on ice value due to a lack of foot speed.
My thinking is that Pickering buys you out of Hextall’s mistakes.
The 1st nets you Gibson.
If Joseph was gonna happen for Pittsburgh, at this point, he would’ve happened. So he’s basically a swap of projects there with Max Jones being a project himself.
Brayden Tracey is in there to help balance things out on the perceived value front as he too is a total reclamation project that is more than likely to never make the show.
I looked for a way to fit Comtois into the deal knowing Sid’s love of big body cycling wingers, but I don’t see Anaheim giving up on him just yet with no real replacement coming up yet whose capable of playing the McSorley role on Zegras’ wing.
While Pitt is still in win now mode, this manages to keep a kid like Belliveau in the fold while sending the message to the group that the Cup is what next year is all about.
Hopefully Dubas learned from his mistakes in Toronto. Putting also-rans in at the most important position on the ice will carry you about as far as a paper plane built from the papyrus of a handshake agreement. |

Only thing in the Pittsburgh proposal above that makes sense is Jan Rutta, who is the kind of player I expect PV to target in free agency. The Ducks have at least seven high end defense prospects in their system (LaCombe, Helleson, Zellweger, Mintyukov, Luneau, Hinds, Warren). Three of those guys were voted the top defensemen in the three Canadian junior leagues, and a fourth was voted the top defensive defenseman in his league. The Ducks are stacked on D prospects and Pittsburgh is thin. A trade where the centerpiece is D prospects doesn’t make sense for either team. We’d likely be trading those guys again a year or two down the line, and a couple years after that we’d all be whining when three of our D ‘castoffs’ are playing in the Stanley Cup Finals again. No thanks.
I think Buffalo makes more sense as a trading partner if Gibson is willing to go there. Sabres are a goalie away from being a playoff contender and have the talent to be a full-on cup contender over the life of Gibson’s contract. It’s hard to believe they are willing to bet that future on a guy (Devon Levi) who has 7 games of NHL experience. Buffalo has a logjam of young wingers that would help fill a need in Anaheim.
Same thing for Ottawa, who don’t currently have an NHL-level goalie under contract, although they don’t quite have the same level of wing prospects available. |
