So Alex DeBrincat who had 66 points in 81 games and was a -31 has a lot of value with a supposed long term contract coming in the 8s but Garland who had 46 points in 81 games and was a -5 at 5M essentially is a bad contract and needs an asset attached to move.

If the Canucks are willing to let Garland go for little in return the Jets should be all over that, he doesn't have trade protection and produces at even strength which is where they struggle, he's small but tenacious, they could use that. |

Apparently, being over the cap is the one of the first steps to winning the cup. |

Vancouver sends the 11th overall in 2023, their 1st in 2024 and Garland to the Blackhawks for the 19th overall in 2023, the Lightning's 2nd round pick in 2023 (owned by the Hawks), and the Lightning's 1st in 2024 (owned by the Hawks).

Hey everyone, lost track of HB after the marathon threads. I do have to say vegas for the cup rang true! Most here said they wouldn't even make playoffs with the exception of a few. Having gone to a playoff game there against edm, have to say it's infectious and I was rooting for them afterward. They do it up right there.
The playoffs really showed me how far away the canucks are. The speed & physicality was just night and day from watching a canuck game. I remember specifically watching a dallas vegas game and it looked like they were in an entirely different league than canucks - like AHL to NHL. There's more give a poop in chandler stephenson or that will carrier than the entire canuck team. That Roope Hintz is a freight train!
On Garland, I'd rather watch him play than pay to get rid of him or take on spare parts. He at least tries different things and cares. Petterson will be gone now that he's seen Eichel force his way out of a losing team and the end results. Even more dark days ahead for vancouver than I even thought before last year. The fact that a team has missed the playoffs this many teams, never got a top tier draft pick and the hottest topic/need for the team is STILL a need to shed salary ... this team still hasn't hit bottom in order to start climbing back up. A shame. |

This always seems to be a Canucks issue, dealing with other NHL teams who want to take advantage of the Canucks poor management. I don't hear it as often with other teams, but it does happen. Like the Leafs paying a first round pick to Carolina to take Marleau's contract off their hands.
I think the Canucks are just best to hang tight and eat their past indiscretions, I don't think they're going to have any other choice unless they want to keep making the poor decisions that Jim Benning continually made. I guess we'll see in how the next three weeks plays out. |

Chicago Blackhawks: Seth Jones Trade
This is a complicated one because Seth Jones does have some value. He is not a bad player and is not going to totally sink the team through poor play.
But Chicago timed this poorly and gave up more value than they were getting back in both the trade and contract.
When the Blackhawks added Jones, it was clear the team was headed toward a rebuild. They were not just one player away from contending.
They ended up giving up a promising young player in Adam Boqvist and two top-12 picks (Columbus selected Cole Sillinger and David Jiricek) for Jones and a No. 30 overall pick while also signing Jones to a $9 million per year contract.
It is just a terrible misuse of assets for a player who, while good and valuable, is not going to move the needle on a rebuild. Boqvist and the two top-12 picks would have had more value long-term.
That contract also impacted their ability to re-sign Alex DeBrincat, which could have played a role in giving him away to the Ottawa Senators at the NHL draft this year.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Makes a guy feel good that there are other teams who employ people who make ridiculously stupid mistakes like Jim Benning. The Hawks essentially gave up Boqvist, Sillinger and David Jiricek to get Seth Jones and then go into a rebuild. |

Yeah it's unfortunate because they could have started the rebuild a couple years ago when all those plug (Roussel, Beagle, etc) contracts were expiring. Instead they signed up for another half decade of pain with OEL, and last year did the same with Miller. Until those indiscretions are dealt with, the rebuild can't even begin. Even after they're dealt with one way or another, the fallout will likely last a couple years. |

I would offer the Black Hawks Garland and Tyler Meyers for Canucks 2023 3rd and 2024 4th. They can retain on Garland and probably get a second from a team like the Jets. I think that would be fair for all. |

The more I look at the Canucks defense the more I think they need to trade JT Miller+ and start over. I'd be trading anyone and everyone except Pettersson. Demko would look good in Buffalo, they're ready to take the next step but need better goaltending.
VGK defense is big and mobile, the Canucks is soft and pathetic, outside of Hughes and Hronek it's embarrasing how bad it is...Jesus!!
" Pietrangelo (6-3, 215 pounds) & Martinez (6-1, 210) on the top pair, Brayden McNabb (6-4, 215) & Shea Theodore (6-2, 200) making up the second pair, Zach Whitecloud (6-2, 210) & Nicolas Hague (6-6, 230) as the emerging third pair." |

... and Rathbone hahaha. In all honesty, I like bones but you can't have multiple severely undersized defensemen in this league nowadays. For where they are right now, I would trade Hughes and try and groom Rathbone for that puck moving role.

This is a comedic offer. You think the Hawks would take on >$11m in AAV, saving the Canucks from their cap troubles, for two mid-round picks?
The Hawks got Tyler Johnson, a similar player with similar term as well as a 2nd round pick just for taking the contract off Tampa’s hands. The Canucks have no leverage.
11 and Garland for 19, 55, and a future mid-round pick is on-par for equal value. |

Wasn’t Drury “untouchable” at the start of the season? How the overrated homer prospects have fallen. |

Jets don't have any 2nds left and I'd try to get him for less, like a 3rd at most, we took that awful Schmidt contract off your hands so I think the Nucks can do the Jets a solid.. lol |
