Karine Hains: In Hainsight: Hockeybuzz Mock Draft Once again, this year, I agreed to take part in the Hockeybuzz mock draft and make the pick for the Canadiens.

If Habs can’t trade to move up, I would not be surprised to see them moving down…

I see the Caps, who would be best land spot for the Russian, trading for him…. I don’t know what an interesting deal would be?

Their 8th would be the base + Prospect + Picks…

But if Smith is still available, they will pick him 5th…

I think Smith will be gone 4th to the Sharks....I believe it will be Benson. His size concerns me, but then they might be able to trade smaller prospects already in the system for a better group of forwards and maybe a right D they can plug in to improve and maybe just maybe if they stay healthy scratch themselves into the 16th slot and make the playoffs....we cant win with so many small forwards on the team ...see Vegas Vikings

That’s why I don’t see them trading away Anderson to pick a midget…

I am not sure I would not take Mantha at half the salary….

I would be surprised if they did trade down niw’s the time to pick a talented player and moving down is always a gamble…if Wash moves to 5th and pick Michkov, Leonard coukd be 6th, Benson 7th and then what do u get? The defenseman? This team needs talent up front, dont want them to pass up on that.

Mantha is a resounding no for me. They said they want to be more competitive now is not the time for a reclamation project. Bring Monahan back, at least we know he can compete and he may be flippable if he stays healthy

Question for the you Karine and Habs fans in general - because So cal is not a hotbed of QMJHL telecasts - I need some knowledge-

Are Gaucher, Luneau & Warren good enough to make a very crappy Ducks team out of camp ??

No surprises so far and the right order of players. Which leads me to believe that after this pick it’s all going to be full of them.

yeah, 0 team will fall for that one

if a team wants him, they will get him

if he falls to the caps, it will be their own decisions bases on their own sources and own assesments

all of the teams have infos that fans do not anyway. They can talk directly to players and staff members. they dont need Twitter lol

the habs have started to accumulate some interesting talent on their roster but they don't have many "elite" high-end players yet, which any team who wants to win obviously needs. considering they now have a clear opportunity to add that kind of talent with such a deep draft, it would be pretty (frank)ing dumb for them to trade down from the top 5, imho.

Why would you be glad michkov was picked? You should be pissed. You almost had him. He should’ve went 2. I would’ve disagreed with every pick 2and later until he was picked

yeah, hence the "mind games" gif

Also, side note, Russians really think people around them are dumb.

would be pretty sad if an actual scout from an NHL organization made a whole bunch of poop up about a young kid, even if it's because there's a "strategy" behind it.

I don't have a high level of confidence in Russian media right now so I'll wait until the story is officially confirmed (or denied) by other outlets, because this TVA article could not be more vague.

Assuming Will Smith is their preferred pick at #5, if he is not there and the next best pick, in their opinion, is further back.... why not trade down?

I think there will be a trade of this pick... maybe up to get ahead of others for the player they want, or more likely down, if the Russian is there at 5.

this is very true, but I'm convinced the habs will be interested in a few of those players projected to be picked in the top 5, I highly doubt it'll be a "it's this guy, if not we trade down" kind of scenario.

it very well could be though I guess, it isn't because fans are super excited about those players that Hughes and his team will come to the same kind of conclusion with their player evaluation.

They obviously don't want him to leave. I think the whole aura of uncertainty around him is off putting. But a team will take a chance, not long past the 5th pick I think.

Yeah, it's pretty much a lock. If I'm Anaheim, I don't give up my 2nd overall unless you give me a king's ransom.

...and for the Habs, unless they think a guy like Fantilli would really turn their franchise around, the price paid to acquire that pick would be like robbing Peter to pay Paul as they say.

that,
and when you can pick the player you want at 5... you take him!
you don't trade down hoping you get your guy at 7 or 8. no chance to take.
