Couldn't agree more. Would gladly speak up for Tatar if a GM came calling and wanted an opinion, but given where our team is at, it just doesn't make sense to resign him. He "deserves" a little more than he's actually worth (to us specifically), so let him get a couple bucks somewhere else.

Our young leadership has shown they're more mature than their age would indicate. We have a leadership group that is clearly defined in Nico, Jack, Palat and Dougie, so there's no need to sell ourselves on having Tatar around for veteran leadership when we can plug some of that onto our roster in similar ways we did with Brendan Smith.

We obviously need to get some things sorted to round out the forward group, but in addition to that, bring in a cheap veteran or two and have them battle it out with the still unproven kids (Holtz, Foote, Clarke, etc.) and may the best man win come October.

On Insider Trading on TSN tonight, Pierre LeBrun has reported that the Devils are one of the teams Connor Hellebuyck is willing to sign an extension with. The Devils have explored this and have had discussions with the Jets about a possible sign and trade, but the Hellebuyck ask is giving the Devils pause. He's looking for a long term extension in the range of 9.5M and that price would obviously have to come down for the Devils to make it work.

Yeah I mean I have zero interest in him with that kind of long term extension. Would be the complete opposite of what Fitz has been building here and would be the #1 way to ruin what hes already built. But I'm not opposed to it as a rental or with an extension of 2-3 years at like 7M AAV(which I couldn't imagine he'd ever agree to). His ask is just too much money and term for a 30 year old goalie. Nice to know that NJ is becoming a destination that top players would like to go to though.
