Agree with Pat on all counts... Monty deserves the chance, he's earned it. |

Hains: In Hainsight: What About Montembeault?
In one year, Samuel Montembeault could be an unrestricted free agent, but he’s got no intention of testing the market. - Karine Hains
If he wants to stay, sign a sweetheart deal. I'd advocate it's better to wait until January, so you see a larger sample size of what he can do with top minutes |

It'll be interesting to see who gets game one: Monty or Jake. |

I guess it could make sense going 4 years long, depending of the numbers.
If they draft a goalie next week he wont be ready for a while anyway.
If they already had another option to be the starter, it might be something else, but they dont (not yet) |

If you extend mont but doesn't get game 1 then you are regretting the signing |

The season is too long, so you need to rely on more than one goalie
The panthers and Vegas being an example of that.
Ok Vegas went extreme with the concept, but the best teams dont run a guy 60+ games anymore and if they do, they usually pay for it |

Depends if you mean preseason...I see Jake getting PS game one, regardless. |

for pre-season it'll surely be Primeau and other goalies they have in the organization, veteran players rarely take part in the first game.

That's the issue... There so much question with Primeau... I see Jake 1, Pri 2, Monty 3. Decisions need to be made with Cayden |

You guys think Jake gets put out there as trade bait? Also, is Jake willing to take on a backup role? As much as our focus is on the draft, this I think could be big. |

hasn't Allen been a backup for a huge chunk of his career?

that's what I would do, but they might feel they need to have a vet back there with monty
which means they may try to trade Primeau instead or just waived him after next camp and see what happens.
Considering his contract, a team could take a chance on him. Not much of gamble to pick a guy who is at the league minimum |

Yup. But he has a taste of the #1 now...for athletes who live on ego, this could be a real sticking point.
We keep hearing how happy the forwards are under MSL...what about goal/defense? |

I still don't think he is the goalie to carry us forward long-term, but he is better than good enough for now to do the job.
It also gives HuGo the luxury of not being forced to make a move for a goalie right now, giving them the opportunity to look at other options (draft, FA, trade) over the next few years, rather than an MB panic move special.

Yes. St. Louis, seemed to always look for help in goal when they had him |

so he was the starter by default over there as well
4 years or so if you look at the number of times he started in st-louis |
