Karine Hains: In Hainsight: Conclusions Fast Approaching There are currently two topics of conversations in Habsland; where Pierre-Luc Dubois will land and when will Matvei Michkov be drafted. Thankfully, both stories will soon be put to bed.

Should be a quiet next 3-4 days, perfect time to shut it down and take a break.

Indications are the Montreal Canadiens have tried to get back into the mix for Pierre-Luc Dubois, but haven’t been able to gain traction. Montreal has “future” assets, but Wpg needs NHL ready players. LA has that and it appears PLD prefers the LA option. Developing story.

The risk is not just that war, and three year contract, it is also there will be very little say in Michkov's development over those three years. Unless there is a path seen that gets him over to NA in a year or two, easy pass on him. The talent in the top ten this year is incredible, Habs are going to get a very good player.

At this point, Habs should wait it out. If he really wants to be in MTL, he’ll find a way.

Montreal will remain an intriguing team in this weeks activities. The Canadiens are in the market for an age specific forward and feel like they have the picks and D prospects to attract the right piece.

to me the action will take place tomorrow and Thursday. not so much on July 1st since the pool of UFAs is not that impressive. plus Montreal already have 23-25 players under contract, I don't see them getting anyone on July 1st.
we often heard Hughes did the easy job first (like trading Toffoli) and now the real work starts. need to dump Hoffman, Dvorak and Armia. asap.

Not sure trading Romanov for picks and then for Dach was such an easy job but yeah, lots of important decisions coming.

Not sure that is the guy, but I am in the camp of "expect the unexpected" from this management group.

I think something will happen.

Likely not something we saw coming.

And it will be a fun ride.

he still traded guys who had value. Toffoli, Lekhonen, Romanov...
the ones who don't have any are still here.

It's just a name I threw out there. People were talking about buying low on Newhook as well.

Of course I'd rather see them land PLD but I don't want them to overpay for him either.

The Weber contract into Dadonov into Gurianov into maybe nothing wasn't that bad.

Hoffman is gone next year, I am not worried about him. Armia still has 2yrs at 3.4M/yr, I think they will try to move him during the season hoping he has a decent season.

Edmundson is the one they will move this summer, I would say most likely this week for a pick/prospect.

Both.

So far Hughes has been smart in both assets given up and money handed out. He needs to keep following that path if we are to remain competitive moving forward.

The challenge being is, the core is all young and about the same age. All those entry level contracts will push players to RFA status about the same time, maybe over 2-3 years.

So they need to manage the cap really well to be ready to deal with those new contracts, and decide who stays and who might be going to make that happen.

HuGo are fully aware of this (Hoffman/Armia). Dvorak will go if they trade for another center (like PLD), I am sure they have a few irons in the fire to acquire and move guys to reshape the team. We should see some of those move come this week or this summer.

I can’t see them paying PLD more than Suzuki / Caufield…..imo paying more would be a kick in the ass to the two of them.
