Fun fact: Ryan Chyzowski is the son of Dave Chyzowski, the 2nd overall pick in the 1989 NHL draft.

Everyone remembers 1989 as the year the Leafs had three 1st round picks: Scott Thornton, Rob Pearson, Steve Bancroft (all from the Belleville Bulls).

But Dave Chyzowski was picked 2nd overall by the Islanders, and played only 126 games in the NHL over 6 seasons (1 season with the Blackhawks), amassing only 15 goals and 16 assists.

But let's talk about the Leafs having terrible picks that year.

Sigh.

Two if you count Holl.

I've already given up on Robertson.

After that, wow, we have absolutely nothing.

It's franking weird that they awarded him the Lady Byng Trophy four years in a row.

It's a trophy that you really shouldn't win more than once - like the Masterton Trophy (with the exception of Pacioretty - who should have won that one every year).

You're not going to find a whole lot of top-end elite talent considering where we've drafted - out of the top-10 for over 7 straight years - but I think Knies looked pretty good in his brief audition. Similar to you, I don't know about Robertson, but I don't think he'll pan out. He has a good shot and decent sense for the net, but he just seems cursed.

I wouldn't count out Niemela, Hirvonen, Ovchinnikov, Minten, Moldenhauer, Voit, Hildeby or even the two Russian goalies - Peksa or Akhtyamov. They all have decent skill ceilings, but Niemela, Hirvonen, Moldenhauer and Voit are all smaller players, so I doubt you'd see more than 2 of them make it - out of them, I'd bet that Niemela has the skills to get by (really he just needs to put on muscle - he's 5'11, but he's 170).

What a great time to renew my mortgage.
