Wow, why not just have McDavid himself be the president and GM so he can bring in who he wants. I don't like this at all for the Oilers as I feel it may deter people from wanting to play there. |

He will have to step down from all his agency responsibilities of course… |

I guess "conflict of interest" is never heard of in Canada? |

Reminds me of the movie semi pro. But hey, they’ve been a joke for sometime now. Might as well try something new. |

Lots of bad takes already.
First, this is not the the first time an agent has moved into a managerial or leadership position. No conflicts.
Second, Jackson was not always an agent. He used to be an assistant GM in Toronto, as well as GM of the Marlies. So he has managerial experience.
Third, he's incredibly well-connected and will lead the Oilers search for a new GM, since this is the final year of Holland's contract. If you are an Oiler's fan, you'd rather have a well-connected experienced executive like Jackson leading that search rather than Bob Nicholson. Speaking of Nicholson, this likely means he's finally headed for an exit. Long overdue.
Smart hire for Edmonton! |

If this increases the chances of McDavid signing an extension, then it would probably also increase the chances of Draisaitl signing one a year prior knowing the environment will be stable. This seems like a smart hire.

Yeah, Pierre LaCroix was pretty successful here in CO - enough to get to the HOF - and Kent Hughes is doing OK so far in Montreal. Not sure why people think this is such an odd move or that Jackson would somehow still be McDavid's agent which would be preposterous. LaCroix was Roy's agent and of course had to give that up. I would think Edmonton could use some fresh blood at this point.

Is this the same Jeff Jackson who played for the Nordiques and Rangers? That guy was so fun to watch as he was maybe outside of Jeff Odgers the worst fighter in NHL history. |

Anything that pushes Nicholson further away from team operations is a good move. |
