Wonder if he could get his size ready for the NHL even if it’s nothing more than a bottom six role, some can, others can’t, kid seems pretty driven tho |

Lol I always do but sorry all the same.
Decent weight increase for the kid tho, and he seems to manage half decently in the AHL, wonder where he’ll be at in the next couple years. |

Actually the more I read about this kid the more interesting… gets bumped up in the lineup and has 4G and 1A in 4 games in something I read dated “5 months ago” lol
Maybe he’s just one of those late bloomer types… mid twenties so to speak. His production increase was very notable apparently after being bumped up the Marlies lineup late in the season.

unless there a 30% in retention on his cap hit, move along, these aren't droid you are looking for. |

Petry at 4.6M is worth every penny imho.
But I'm sure the Habs could retain if it makes the return more interesting. |

Absolutely, and I am pretty sure Montreal are more than ready to absorb even more than that.
Quite the good move by Montreal actually. Pittsburgh already absorbed 25% of Petry's cap. Montreal can quite easily absorb another 50% of his remaining cap hit for the next two years. They could trade him now at a 2.5M cap hit for a lower draft pick to go along with the second they already received. Or, they could roll the dice, and hope he produces similarly to old Petry, and trade him to a contender at the deadline for a really good pick. Very good use of cap space by Hughes here. |

For a happy and healthy Petry yes. If Montreal keeps him, and he has a bounceback season, I could see a 1st at the deadline if Montreal retains 50%. |

We trade for Karlsson yet at 50% retained or trade Willie for Wilson yet and sign him to 4 years at $5million? |

I'll say this for Dubas, or maybe more acurately the Leafs overseas scouting. They came up with some pretty decent forwards when they had very limited draft picks at their disposal. I wonder if the Penguins will afford him those same resources? He's going to need them. |

Toronto has had a very successful sales pitch of “you used to be good, now you suck. Come to Toronto, play in front of the media glare, raise your stock.”
God bless Dubas, he was very successful with that spiel in Toronto, but I’m not confident that same pitch will work in Pittsburgh. |

Pittsburgh better make the playoffs..
I think they will.
Either way, I don’t think Dubas deserves any props until a team under his management actually wins something. |

At this point just curious to see if Tree has anything else up his sleeve before we hit training camp and pre-season. Still that bit over the cap.
As for Dubas meh, dont much care on his moves. He just made an old team older and with less pucks when they are nearing a rebuild phase. Not sure they are really better, with a lot of money tied up for a last kick at the can mentality.
Montreal made out really well and looking like they are moving forward and getting better. |

It's questionable whether the Pens are better after this trade. Would be fun if the Pens immediately won the Stanley Cup though, |
