Columbus was a much more physical opponent than Buffalo and it seemed to rattle our entire defense. Jones really disappointed tonite.

Cuylle looks GREAT.

That first offside was a result of LaFranchise doing that silly curl ( yet again ) when he crosses the blue line. Its a TERRIBLE habit and it cost us a goal.

Slightly disagree with your assessment Jan on Vesey. I thought he really played well in his limited minutes and even got credited with an assist on our first goal.

Game 2 of a long season ---- on to our HOME OPENER!!!

I absolutely have to disagree about Laf, Tommy.
He did not curl back. Panarin's pass was behind him and he had to twist back to get his stick on it. Laffy's pass across was a bang-bang play and he simply thought he could hold the puck over the line as he released it, same as a defenseman gaining the red line to dump it in. Unfortunate, but I wouldn't fault the kid for such a close play.

Laf had to stop to get the pass that was behind him, he didn’t curl back

Edit: yea what Tony said lol

After re-watching the replay, I agree with you Tony ---- the pass was behind him. Good catch!

This game seemed like the fall back game demonstrating that it will take time for the new system to be second nature. I did see moments where some Rangers reverted to irresponsible passing in their own zone resulting in turnovers due to Columbus' physical forecheck.
Overall. I didn't see a lack of care or try in most of the players. Which is different from last season where they lost these games AND looked like they could care less on the ice.
Soo...that's good.

PS: I hope those linesman saw the optometrist today.

Felt that way too, weird game start to finish. Optimistic about tonight.

Cuylle the 4th most impactful forward in the game. Guy is the exact type of player the Rangers have been needing for a decade+.

Idk about that. His game is very simplistic, and I mean that in the best way possible. He's always around the net or keeping pucks alive along the boards.

If he can be s hybrid of Kreider and Goodrow, that would be the ideal player.

Weird game. Came out flying again and after the 2 goals got called back, seemed to get the team down.

I mean he blocks shots and hits people. Be a better version of that, and the result is productive NHL player. Never said Goodrow was good.

He hustles, has size/plays physical, good hands and shot, goes to the dirty areas… Think part of my comment is based on his reputation as an enforcer which we haven’t seen yet. That part may take another year or 2 to develop, but still don’t think we’ve had a home grown player like him that I can remember. Maybe like a better version or Trent Frederic? Idk.

Goodrow had a great first season but has been pretty average since.

That too. He's always moving. Which is good.

Edit: Trent Frederic is a good comp. Be half the player Travis Koenecny is. I'll take that too.

We still talking cuylle? He’s got an almost elite wrist shot and he uses it. Can’t really think of a comparable player in the league tbh (in terms of non elite players). Size, grit, effort, all the tools to be tough in front of the net but then also can and does rip it from further out.

Would you rather me harp on every aspect of the bad loss to columbus?

I was just too lazy to figure out if that’s what was happening. I’m happy to talk cuylle

Separately, I got a membership to Andy and rono’s site if you or anyone wants me to post anything from it I will. Just need to figure out how to do that from my phone

Oh ok. I was like "What is wrong with trying compliment Will Cuylle?" But he's good, perfect fit for that 3rd line LW right now.

Could see Frederick being one of his first bouts too. Think there’s a good chance we see one before they play in 5 weeks.
