Right now, Campbell signing is killing them. He's playing like an AHLer and Skinner isn't playing much better. Can't compete with that level of goaltending no matter who the skaters are. |

Hi Sean!
Hope married life is treating you well.
Who would you want to replace Holland? I have seen some OIle fans wanting to bring in Quenneville as head coach, but it seems like there is another lawsuit against the Blackhawks from a former player. Not sure Quenneville is what you want with all his baggage.

A blog for another day but for now I will simply say some options like Brad Holland, Eric Tulsky out of Carolina, and ironically Shawn Horcoff would be interesting options.
Absolutely no to Quenneville. |

The Nurse contract and Campbell contracts were the worst I’ve seen in years! I said that when they signed, and not just now. Any Dman at 9.25 should be able to get on the ice and control the shift. Nurse is a mess for that price! As for Campbell, I watched him with the Leafs and prayed that they did not resign him. Thank gawd the Oilers stepped up! I didn’t want him at any price! You just cannot ever depend on him. Every play you hold your breath that he’s going to stop it. |

The problem with the contract is that Campbell did not have a proven history of performing well, and he was not young at all either. That was a risky contract from day 1 and it is going about as poorly as possible. |

"1) Goaltending
2)Lack of Legitimate Top 4 Defensemen
3) Secondary Scoring"
I'm not so sure I agree with this, or the "Absolutely not Joel Quenneville" comment/mentality. These baby shark shark players desperately need a hard ass coaching them.
The problem with the Oilers is that they really do not care to COMPETE. It's like they're the spoiled kids of the '80s Oilers that just work at their parents' business. They don't seem to know how to go and get it themselves. Sure, your top 3 reasons above are legitimate reasons, but there is no character on the Oilers, they're floaters and passengers, waiting for someone to lead them. I see this as the main problem that has persisted for decades. There hasn't been a true LEADER on the Edmonton Oilers for like 20years.

Nuge - Kane - Gagner line was flying last game. They were buzzing. Something good was going to come off this line.
Why Woodcroft broke that line apart halfway through the game is beyond me.

The year Nurse got his contract was when he racked up all kinds of points playing OT with McDrai. Win faceoff back to Nurse. He gives puck to someone and gets an assist. Opponents eventually figured out a way to stop these automatic goals. The fact that Holland and the rest of management couldn't see this is beyond me.
At this point:
1) Jackson fires Holland and takes over on an interim basis with Gretzky. Then conduct a true search this summer.
2) Jackson instantly fires Woodcroft, Manson, and especially Schwartz. Hire Q. Who cares if a small number of fans are upset. Q brings in his own staff.
3) Connor Brown gets waived and is never see again. Sorry for the hurt feelings.
4) Jackson somehow orchestrates a major trade. Swap Campbell for Carter Hart. Will unfortunately cost more assets. Does adding a 1st and a guy like Broberg or Holloway get that done? Maybe add more. Philly then buys him out this summer. |

I think you might be underestimating the numbers here, but I love the idea. They should hire Bowman while they're at it. Their track record speaks for itself. |

Their goaltending is by far the worst at saving high danger shots. Much worse than the next worst team (PIT). Can't win in the salary cap era if your goalie can't make some of these saves. Especially Campbell who is on a rather expensive long term contract. Expecting a team to play lockdown defense like it is Team Canada v. Latvia is delusional. |

The left-wing media and fanboys speak loudly. The other 99% of fans really don't care that much. People who make mistakes and become better people deserve a second chance. Look at Craig MacTavish. Kassian. Kane. List goes on.
Also, have some perspective on what Q actually did. He didn't abuse anyone. He heard about an ALLEGATION as the team was on the cusp of winning the Cup. He expressed a view that this would create quite a distraction so let's handle this in a few weeks after the season. Was that wrong - sure, he admits that now. But there were many personnel higher up the management chain that ultimately made that decision. Q didn't have sole control of the situation. What Hockey Canada did was worse in my opinion. There was clear evidence of using hush money to try and make problems disappear. How many Hockey Canada folks are still employed? |

Hollands got a plan, 1st oa this year, top 5 pick next year, Stanley!
I would love to see the Oilers hire Quennville, be the icing on the cake so to speak.
Where’s Mrs McDavid? Need some more of those unwritten rules explained. |

Total crap post. He knew what was going on and decided it wasn’t worth dealing with. He’s as guilty as any of them and shouldn’t be allowed back in the NHL. Just cause Hockey Canada paid hush money, doesn’t make it any better.
It’s funny all those former convicts you claim to get a 2nd chance are all former Oilers. |

Sure to all of this. But there's enough heat around this team and on it's leadership right now. It doesn't make a lick of sense to add more.
There's better candidates out there that have done things the right way. That's the voice you need leading McD and Drai. Not a guy who's morality they're gonna have to answer endless questions about. |
