Are there any weaknesses to the Senators? How is this team 5-7-0?

Goaltending is quite poor and their blue line is much better in the O Zone than defensively. Hence why they are 27th in goals allowed/game and bottom half of the league in most every 5v5 defensive metric.

Flames bring the best out of other goalies. Boys are getting thimped. Time for change.

With Zadorov coming out and asking for a trade it sort of forces Conroy into a rebuild. Probably the best thing that could happen for the opening of the new building.

100% and coupled with the fact that they have the 30th best record in the league..... Conny needs to be open for business with no untouchables!

Rebuild should’ve happened 3 years ago (after covid-shortened season) when we already knew Gaudreau and Tkachuk wouldn’t sign new contracts. We could’ve fast-tracked a full rebuild, maybe draft Connor Bedard, have a full cupboard of prospects and be competitive again maybe next year.

Instead we’ll suck for another 5, at the very least.

But it didn’t. There’s no way Treliving was admitting defeat that far into his shift. He scrambled to be competive, signing players to huge contracts trying to save his own job.
The facts are in now, don’t dwell on the past, embrace the future.

Except the Flames didn't know Johnny wouldn't resign until it was too late. In fact up until then they thought he was as good as coming back. It wasn't until the last minute and his wife convinced him to sign somewhere to help her further her career that they had a clue he was moving on. Besides, if you look at him currently... he doesn't seem to be much of a game changer anymore.

I’m sure Conroy will take all offers then pick the one that best suits the Flames. I wouldn’t be suprised if someone pays a late 1st. It’s really too bad as he looks like one of the few that actually cares. Andersson looked terrible last game, coughing up the puck. I think they need to get everyone gone that doesn’t want to be here and try and get some unity again.

Sorry to disappoint, but I doubt the Flames get a first. They're not in the position of strength. The player has requested the trade and is otherwise a FA at seasons end. There isn't a huge market right now for 3rd pair dmen. Other teams know the Flames need to get something for their upcoming UFAs. They're not about to do the Flames favors and over pay for them. When pretty much half the team wants out or is available you're not exactly dealing from a position of strength.

I can see your point, however there are a couple teams desperate for a Dman with size, and the fact that Zads is playing really good hockey helps. I have no idea what they get, but its not like they are trying to trade Tyler Myers.

When he was playing for Colorado, Zadorov pretty much singlehandedly neutralized Monahan and Gaudreau during the Flames-Avs series (Makar and MacKinnon took care of the rest). Someone will remember that and will be willing to pay a late first, especially if we take some salary back.

That’s why I’m thinking Klingberg and 1rst for Zadorov.

I see that if there wasn’t any interest in Big Z. Apparently he’s well sought after, so that alone will increase his value. Lots of contenders looking for a physical D and I don’t think he’s just a 3rd pairing D. He scored 11 goals last year, more than any other D on the Flames.

He actually had 14 goals last season but 3 were in the last game when results didn't matter vs the Sharks. It's the exception to the norm. He otherwise has never scored more than 7 goals. I like the guy, big and physical with an ability to contribute on the score sheet. But he's not worth a 1st. He costs 3.75M so an acquiring team needs to have either the space or to ship a contract out as well. He's physical, not elite offensively but capable, and not elite defensively, takes some needless penalties. I'd say a 2nd plus a contract coming back and maybe a later pick swap is the return.

As for keeping him til the deadline, do you really want to keep a cancer around for the locker room for another 50ish games? Get rid of him now and know what you have. Maybe you can flip whatever you get for him to another team and recoup some more useful assets.

Any team with a look at the playoffs will be interested in Zadorov. Players like him basically get a free pass by referees in the postseason, he’ll be a hot commodity.

There’s so much turmoil already in that room keeping Z til you find the right trade isn’t a big deal. I’m sure he’s not the only one pouting in there. You hold steady and wait for the right deal, it won’t take long.
