Good run-down on the game, Jeremy. Not sure there were many Chiarot fans after last season, I'm not overly excited about him, but every now n then, he shows up to play.

Tonight's game needed to be a W. The way we lost last night indicated a need to shut things down. There were some stretches where the Hawks plays better than we did, but it felt like we had a chip on our shoulders. To me, that was manifested when Kostin threw hands and refused to quit. He was setting a tone that there was no more tolerance for crap. I like his signing and still do. A role player who can chip in a few every now n then. Would like to see him stay around, we need "that guy".

Can I say that Lyon's a rock solid G? Heck with it; Layon's a rock solid G. Husso's struggle seem to be lessening, he played well last night but has some work to do. It's great to know Lyon's able to step up and shoulder the load to spell Husso. Maybe Reimer's trade-bait for a better d-dude? Regardless, Lyon's proving his worth.

JT.....JT. What can anyone say about that dude?? He really showed what he's bringin to the ice, has been playing VERY well-rounded games.

Good game!!! Good write-up, truly enjoy reading your observations, Jeremy.

Not a DET fan but I hope Fabbri is able to overcome his injuries and have a good career. He's been efficiently promising when healthy. Clearly has some creativity.

Fabbri, Mick said he has 7 goals in 9 games! Hope he stays healthy. The way this team can score and a healthy Kane in the works.....WOW!
Gotta fix the D and this could be a contender! .....at least for a play-off spot.

Fabbri's one of those guys that you KNOW can be a superstar, until the injury bug nests and a potentially amazing career is completely derailed. Yes, when he's healthy, there a few that can match his speed and his creativity with the puck. Just hope he stays healthy.

See that's the thing; shaky D....kinda sounds the back-up band for Eminem, doesn't it?? IF we get a healthy set up of Fs who are doing really well, knowing that we can't make a seriously deep SCPO run.......would you consider trading Fs for Ds? And from whom do you choose as the trade bait? And who would you try to trade for?

Interesting thought that keeps kinda swirling around the vast emptiness of my head.....

I am going to give him a ton of credit. He’s most visible on the attack, but has taken his D zone responsibilities to heart. I hate to say it, but sometimes the D doesn’t get noticed and that’s when they’re plugged in and going

Thanks brother. Compher has been just a standout and seems to just move on to the next thing. Even getting first star, deferred to Fabbri’s goal.

Totally agree. One big bonus getting Kane is potentially getting Fabbri in 3rd line minutes. Could get some matchups that are very favorable and hopefully stay healthy. His attitude is fantastic. Regardless of what is going on

A few observations / queries on the DRW. DEM BUMS…….My Team

Apart from Rasmussen being used on the penalty kill because he is so big he gets in everybody’s way. Will someone please tell me why he is on this team.
Yet another prime example of a failed draft pick. By the way Rasmussen needs a sticker on his forehead THIS END UP. Even the air flow from a passing player may cause him to fall.

Did anybody else notice how Moritz Seider was noticeably out skated in a puck chase down late in the third period meltdown against the Rangers? The kid is good, but like Rasmussen……..SLOW.

Yzerman has made some good signings but what was Yzerman thinking by signing Justin “ the Hole “ Holl pray tell ?
Hole’s like St. Nick giving away Pucks like Toy Trucks at Christmas.
Not the next Larry Murphy exactly.

Unless Kostin is here merely to keep the flies off and the penalty bench warm, does he really belong on this team ?

This team looked pathetic against the Rangers particularly hanging on by their finger nails in the third period without Larkin. Even with the addition of a 35 yr old Kane, this team goes nowhere without Larkin. Something else Yzerman has to improve, the support for Larkin. Sure DeBrincat can be a sniper, but against the bigger tougher playoff type teams, DeBrincat can be quickly neutralized.

Detroit’s Defense, what defense, it’s absolutely terrible. Olli Maatta has to go as well as a few others I will mention on a later post.

Thanks for the kind words, his injury history has been concerning and it keeps hanging in the back of my head. When he plays, he tries hard every game and has generally been very effective in his role here when he is available. I really hope for him and his future that he can hold it together for a while.

Do you think The Perfect Human's been working with Ghost moreso than the other D-dudes? Ok, maybe not MORE than, but getting Ghost to hone his d-line work.... So, he has 18pts, but is only a -3. When I look at the rest of the D-dudes, even Holl is a +8 (along with a few others...). Ghost has played up n down the d-pairings and has done ok overall. We knew when he came to us that his D wasn't stellar.....but his +/- (I know, I know.....) isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I can't find who all he's been paied with, but I can recall seeing with just about all of the other D-dudes. He needs to work a bit on his D, I'd say, and I've not peeled back the onion on his other D-stats, but my point is he's turned out a bit stronger than I thought, and he's kicked in 2PPG and an OT goal. Not too shabby, just needs to tighten down his D.

To sum this comment up, the Wings have one legit NHL player in Larkin. The rest of them have no business playing the game and Detroit has no business being an NHL franchise. Even though they are 12-7 and currently in a playoff spot, Kane can’t help them. Since they have no NHL caliber D-men or goalies, they should forfeit the wins they have and shut things down for the year. Clearly their 12 wins were given to them, not earned, because it’s not possible for Detroit’s non-hockey players to beat teams that have real players. Sorry Yzerplan, you gave it a shot but it failed. Time to shut things down and put a for sale sign on LCA.

I have to echo the sentiments of others here...good writeup. This Hawk fan appreciates the kind words about the team. Wings are a few years further along in the process of rebuild, obviously, and it showed on the ice. Good, young talent there and more (Kane) talent coming in a few days. I'm proud of my boys for the effort and the shot advantage, too. That rarely happened before last night. Lyon is a beast. I looked at his save % before the game and said well, we have to hope he has an off night. He didn't. Stay healthy and you should break that playoff drought this year. Gonna be a fun team to watch regardless, though. Good luck the rest of the way.

Did he really just shit on Seider for not being as fast as Kreider, one of the fastest players in the league for the last decade??? Seems rational.
Seider is so very obviously one of the great young D men in the league.

Some observations of the last few games I've made.

Compher, Ghost and Lyon are looking like fantastic pickups by Yzerman. Compher in particular has solidified the 2nd line center position. He's making the the players around him better... and the Wings haven't had a player come along like that in a long time.

Lyon was the best player on the ice IMO. At this point if you don't think he should be getting more starts then you'd have to be delusional. I think he'd take the starting job from Husso if they'd actually give him a shot and play him against better teams. He controls his rebounds way better than Husso or Reimer. And he doesn't get rattled.. he seems to stay cool, calm and focused. He doesn't give up the soft goals that Husso does and he doesn't "duck" to avoid the puck like Reimer did in OT versus Ottawa. Larkin is suppose to be back playing on Saturday. We'll see if they give Lyon another start. Fingers crossed.

Wondering if the Wings need to upgrade their bottom pairing defensemen somehow... not sure how Yzerman can do that without giving up good assets. We're probably stuck with who we have. These third period breakdowns and losing in the third period against Ottawa, Toronto and now the Rangers is still a concern. I was hoping they were done with that when they got back from Sweden. But they imploded again against the Rangers. I hope we've seen the last of that. Not sure if the team just gets worn down because the top 4 defensemen are overworked or what... but the coaches better address it. Overall team defense still needs some work...

Confirmed about Larkin. They were expecting and lost the baby. Prayers for him and his family. LaLonde said he was expecting Larkin back for Saturday's game in Montreal prior to Larkin sharing the sad news. So I'd probably not expect him to be in the lineup.
