Gibson started the season very strong and has regressed right back to league average. He hasn't had a good season since 2019. No GM is giving Verbeek much for him if anything for him. He's likely a liability on that contract.
ARI needs RD more than LD.
Briere is reversing course only 1/3rd of the way into the season?

This would be terrible news for the Rangers I’d think Holtz or Mercer are a piece going to Anaheim in this deal

Last week you mentioned Matt Dumba was a hot commodity. My first instinct was - why would Arizona sell him as a rental when they are finally in a playoff race?

A week later, Arizona has lost 4 in a row, but now they are looking to add Hanifin? Kind of weird to switch from sellers to buyers.

Although maybe its both? Sell Dumba as a hot commodity and add Hanifin as his replacement. Dumba has ties to Calgary so could be a trade and sign situation.

Used to love Gibson but he’s become a very average goalie. At costs someone two “serious” prospects and a first Ducks fans should be packing his bags and driving him to the closest airport

Don't feel Gibson is the answer in net for NJ. Concerned about his last few seasons stats and not sure they're because of ANA's issues on defense. If the cost is reasonable sure, but not 2 prospects + a 1st. We're doing ANA a favor by removing his cap hit.

no thanks. I'd take whatever happens this season, and look for goaltending next off season. Gibson isn't worth much

Ducks are dreaming if they think they’re getting a return like Holtz or Mercer. Gibson Has 6.4 million contract with three more years of term. The Devils have 1.3 million of cap space . Not going to happen !

It looks like a schizophrenic rebuild. Frost, Brink and Zamula have all spent time in the press box. It looks like Briere is stuck in the middle between Jones and Torts. Maybe now that Couturier, Atkinson and Farabee are healthy again they’re retooling and adding.

I love all these responses regarding Gibson. For one, the Ducks don't care about his cap hit, they're already $8.2 mil under the cap and they've got $14.675 mil coming off the books after this season, so if NJ wants Anaheim to eat some of that salary, it's going to cost them. Second, it doesn't matter, how good or bad Gibson is, what matters is if he's better than what NJ has right now. The final important thing is that NJ wants him, the Ducks don't need to get rid of him. Just to make the money work the Ducks would take Vanacek and Siegenthaler and either Mercer or Holtz. If you want Anaheim to eat salary, then it will cost NJ more. Vanacek, Mercer and/or Holtz and a number 1. If not, good luck this season! Maybe Vanacek will turn it around.

Ducks D has been historically bad since they tore it down by trading Lindholm and Manson. This year they've improved slightly but are still playing 2 or 3 rookies every night on the blue line and giving up waaaay too many quality chances. Gibson is better than his numbers, but he's not the guy who was stealing games on a regular basis a few years ago. He's still a big upgrade on what the Devils have gotten from their current rotation and his numbers would look better playing behind NJ's D.

I assume Vanecek would be part of any deal to make the cap numbers work and the Ducks would have to eat some salary. Ducks won't get two top prospects and a 1st, but should get a nice haul. Verbeek will hold out for an overpayment, because he doesn't have to do a deal. Devils need to get something done. Ducks don't.

Since Dumba and Makar are close, maybe Arizona keeps Dumba and trades for Makar.

For one, ANA might have plenty of cap space, but other teams clearly care about cap space especially relative to Gibson's cap hit.

Second, Gibson has been mediocre overall for many years to include this season. I doubt Fitzergerald is dumb enough to jeopardize cap flexibility for an expensive 30 year old mediocre goalie just because he is better than his current goalies. NJD can get a different mediocre goalie with way less contract risk.

Third, Gibson couldn't get moved over the summer. It's self-evident he is no asset in the league with his contract. So Verbeek can just keep him until the end of the contract. Maybe ANA finishes rebuilding when he reaches UFA.

Dumba is a hot commodity, but if Colorado ever shopped Makar he'd be like a hot river of lava. Makar was born in Calgary so I'd start with that.

Ok, like I said, the Ducks will keep him. To be honest, I don't even know if New Jersey is on his 10-team trade list. As for mediocre, Gibson has a .905 save pct. and a 2.89 goals against with 2 rookies and a second-year defenseman in the top 6. But, whatever, good luck to the Devils.

Doubt New Jersey gets a good goalie. The Devil's are built on offense. A goalie won't make them a good defensive team. Add on Gibsons contract and that pretty much means New Jersey won't do it. I mean why pay a large salary to a Goaltender if your not going to support him. It's just a waste of money. New Jersey should just do a cheap goalie tandem. That way if one fails the other can pick up the slack. And both will have smaller contracts so they'll be easier to trade if things don't work.

A goalie that can't have at least one good statistical season in five straight years isn't worth $6m+/yr. cap hit. Simple as that. Every other fan base is tired of the excuses of the "defense in front" of Gibson. No one is fooled.

Hey, Sam Malinski is coming on pretty strong. If he fully reaches his ceiling, Makar could become expendable just as one of McDavid and Draisaitl were a few weeks ago. I think you and Minny are on the right track, look to Calgary. Cale loves the Flames, his dad used to work for the org and he could really extend their window.
