Oilers don't have that goal called back and it's a 3-1 game and not so close anymore. - Oildrum
But they did so it’s 2-1.
I agree with Sean, the challenges are getting ridiculous. Although Kipper and Bourne discussed this and it was 4 minutes,9 seconds according to them, not the 6 minutes Sean claimed. NHL doing everything to speed up the game, then they allow this to happen. Maybe they can make offsides the linesman’s call, it seemed to work for so many years and leave the video for goalie interference or goal challenges.
Perry’s going to get picked up by some contending team, he’s got that edge that you like to see in the playoffs. Edmonton has never been shy to giving 2nd or 3rd chances. Just remember though he was on the losing side for the last few teams he went to the finals with.

I'd love to see off-side challenges get abolished but I think it's impossible to put the genie back into that bottle. Even a maximum 2 minute review period would be a solution. If you cannot prove in a minute or two there is definitive proof a call should get overturned than the call of the ice should stand. |

I totally agree with Sean's "two minute solution". I really don't mind the coach's challenge thing, but there has to be a time limit. It really bothers me however that Draisaitl was called offside but Makar's was not. Inconsistent refereeing is extremely frustrating.
I would remain patient with Evander Kane, his "A" game is just too strong and he showed this in the playoffs. We have much bigger problems than Kane. One could also argue that playing with Brown and Ryan would snuff out ANYONE'S production.
Yes, Gagner needs to be inserted back into the lineup. Not only for his energy but he actually produced and was responsible defensively.
Connor Brown is horrible. There is just nothing there at all, move on. Erne? Hambelin? even Janmark....we need valid NHLers to fill out the bottom 3. I don't think these guys are the ones.
Hopefully mgmt can pull a rabbit out of the hat and fill the holes in the roster, but it'll be tough. |

The comment I made was off Sean's point that if it takes that long to make a decision on a replay then the call on the ice should stand.

After really paying attention to Bouchard for the last 15 games I'm starting to agree with you that he is quite a liability defensively and maybe should be traded. I'm worried that his deficiencies will really start to show in the playoffs. So many giveaways and bad passes under pressure.

Another goal disallowed. That's ok, we can beat the opposing team and the refs. |

Gagner is a spot starter. If actually 100% probably should have been in tonight's lineup. Being vs a former team and all. Not being in tells me he isn't quite 100% yet. I'm OK with him taking an extra day off.
Kane started the season cold. Took it to heart when demoted then got hot and went on a solid run. Went cold again and hasn't got that fire again. He absolutely deserves some time down in the lineup until he can get it going again. Hopefully he gets it going again before April.
IF not, Perry plays a similar game, with less offensive upside. Can't have enough of those guys come playoffs and playoff runs. Provided all he did was something to just offend a Karen and because it was with the Hawks they had no choice but to release him, I am all for him signing. IF he did something honestly offensive... let him help someone else. |

The NHL can further improve camera replay to aid refs. As for the commentators Debrusk kept referring to on ice call was a goal & had nothing to do with it was an offside challenge. So ignore him lol |

Too bad Dobson wasn’t chosen instead as I ranked him ahead. Bouchard has D warts that needs a defensive D partner. Coaching can get him to clean up his play & smarter decisions. |

Ya, Barrie had "warts" that could be hidden with better coaching too. How did that turn out? When allowed to be a run and gun Dman barrie was the next Karlsson, when asked to be a complete defenseman in a Nashville type system.... You can see what he is. Bouch may be from the same clothe unfortunately. |

Well, he IS very young, and he has an absolute ROCKET from the point on the PP, but things go way south very fast after that. Someone else correctly pointed out that coaching can correct a lot but I just see him as a very low hockey IQ player and a tad lazy. The hockey IQ part is the scariest, you can't really fix that. Someone else correctly pointed out that with his current salary he's a bit of a steal...so keep him around I guess, but he can't be first pairing on a contending team, no chance.
It really is the asset manager in me that screams "shop him" (please read the word SHOP...I didn't say trade, or give away, or bannish him! haha). His value is quite arguably THE highest it will ever be right now. It's a risk to trade him, 100%...because he could blossom into an awesome Dman with A+++ offense and B- defense (yes please). I see his hockey IQ and his work ethic as major problems though. So , yeah, use his perceived current over-valuation to fill some gaping roster holes.
I stand by my Saros and Barrie for Bouchard and Campbell idea (mix in some other pieces to negotiate).
People are well aware of my Draisaitl criticisms too, but it's very different from Bouchard. Drai's hockey IQ is through the roof! This guy is in the elite of the elite when he is on. "When he is on" is the problem. He just doesn't move his feet, he pouts, he takes too many low percentage chances to try and win the game alone...basically he is a very immature player, lacking patience. Now that Drai isn't playing up to his potential, ZERO chance I'd trade him now. He's playing with 3rd liners FFsake! lol I think Draisaitl can turn things around and be a superstar again (still is?). This coach seems to be pushing his buttons, haha. Either he starts giving more effort, or he walks, which is a real danger with Leon. I see a selfish guy there.
McDavid will stay in EDM forever, the sheer guilt of a leader not jumping ship, not wanted to let down the guys that follow him. McDavid is a solid guy. (I mean....he married a 3rd liner! hahahaha).

I will forever disagree with you on Bouchard's hockey IQ. Does he make defensive mistakes? Absolutely. But I don't see how you can watch games, see the passes he makes in the defensive end and neutral zone every night and think he is a low IQ player.
Modern NHL is all about transition. Bouchard with Ekholm is one of the best transition D pairings in the NHL. |

Who cares how long it takes to get the call right. Do I want it to happen as fast a possible, sure, but I am a much happier fan, when the call is correct. You can say you don't care, but the second a replay isn't reviewed fast enough and your team loses the game because of it, your tune would be different. Imagine losing a game in the playoffs over a rushed decision. Getting it right trumps losing a couple of minutes.
Pro tip: If your time is sooooo valuable. PVR the game, start watching it about 30 mins. late and skip all of the commercials, replays and intermissions and you can watch a full game in under 2 hours.
As far as the play goes. This is nothing like the Makar play in the playoffs (If we are thinking of the same one). You may need to re-watch it. Makar had possession, pushed it into the zone (effectively giving up possession) and didn't touch it until his offside teammate touched up, allowing him to follow the puck into the zone and continue onside. On the Hyman goal, Draisaitl enters the zone prior to having control (possession) of the puck. You can argue that he had possession if you want, but deflecting it from your leg/skate to your stick IMO, is hardly possession. These are completely different plays Draisaitl wants to claim possession, Makar doesn't.

Bouchard has a high hockey IQ in my opinion. Nurse, not so much. Nobody would say Drai has a low hockey IQ, and some of his giveaways are every bit as bad as any of Bouchard's. But, Bouchard is indeed just a Barrie 2.0. As long as they pay him as such, I will be pro-Bouchard. As soon as they extend him for long term over 5.5 mil, because Oil gunna Oil, then I will hate on him as much as I do Nurse (most of the time). Ekholm is a beauty though. |

Wow! Dude, we're not watching the same guy. I see 20% of this kid's outlet passes go icing. I see fwds constantly having to adjust to recieve his bad passes (watch their blade). Draisaitl had probably 20 more goals from "his spot" last year with Barrie feeding him. I see his partner always having to adjust on the D to D blue line pass. The one that annoys me the most though is why can't he care enough to drop the puck to McDavid so he doesn't have to stutter step every time! Connor loses a lot of speed on his entries this year due to Bouchards slightly-off drop passes.
I see one of the lowest hockey IQs I've seen in quite some time actually. And it's not like a guy like Barrie taking stupid low% risks...it's just low energy, bad positioning, late to the battle, can't pivot fast enough, poor decision making. I think I even notice Eckholm looking out of position sometimes thus year! Which is a result of him not knowing WTF Bouchard is going to do. He doesn't even look nervous! Just dumb.
Broberg sees the ice MUCH better than Bouchard, but Broberg looks like a bag of nerves out there for whatever reason. Personally, longvterm I'd bet on Broberg over Bouchard.
