The reality is that the penguins are a bubble team and i don't think they could win a long series against teams like the Rangers, Bruins or Carolina. I am also concerned that someone will offer jake north of $11M/yr. If he can get a contract like Nylander's, great for him but i don't want that offer to come from the penguins. If a team is going to offer a 1st round pick, a player and a prospect for jake, i would make that trade.
Vancouver would be a good partner. Both teams are against the cap so it has to be dollar for dollar. In coaches and front office, former pens include: prez of operations (Rutherford), GM Allvin, head coach Tocchet, asst coaches Mike Yeo and Sergei Gonchar (Yeo and Gonchar also played for the pens). For players: Cole, Friedman, Teddy, Lafferty and Desmith all played in Pgh. Vancouver also wants some defensive depth so i would expect POJ to also be in play. When he was the GM in Pgh, Rutherford traded for POJ and signed Jake to the contract he is on now.
How about POJ (825k) and Jake (6M) for a 2024 1st round pick, 2025 4th round pick, boeser (6.65M), and podkolzin. No salary retention. |

Why would Vancouver make that trade? Boeser has 8 more goals and the same number of points as Guentzel, doesn't need a big-ticket UFA deal next season, and is more than two years younger than him. The Canucks aren't paying a good prospect and a 1st round pick to mess with their chemistry and maybe get....the same results? |

Nylander is better and two years younger than Guentzel so no team should offer him that contract.
Doubt any team is offering that much for a rental unless he is willing to re-sign.
Vancouver is a top team with arguably the best line in hockey. They aren't breaking that up for a likely lateral move. That makes zero sense for them. |

I agree with all of this. So, I do agree that Nylander is better now....in regular season....however, Jake is a proven playoff beast. 9th all time in goals per game in playoffs...0.001 goals per game less than Gretzky at 8th.
*que a hater breaking the news the Pens didn't make the playoffs last season. |

I'm confused as to why LA, who I thought had the best center depth in the league (Kopitar, Byfield, PLD, Danault, Lizzotte plus Turcotte and Akil Thomas in the AHL), would be on that list of teams also interested in Monahan. Conversely Colorado, who's made two major trades with Montreal the last two years and is badly in need of another center, is not. Also it was pretty widely reported that the Avs were looking to acquire Monahan last season until he got injured. Very curious but I guess the Kings want to corner the market on centers and the Avs want to continue playing MacK 25 minutes a night. Who can figure NHL GM's, huh? |

A couple of days ago Markstrom was linked to NJ and Buffalo. NJ made some sense to me - so does Carolina - but Buffalo seemed like a bizarre trade partner.
Today, only NJ is mentioned. Maybe they are the ones closing in on Markstrom then?
Montreal is selling Monahan, but they will be net buyers. Maybe Chychrun then?
Not long ago I was visiting the Tikal ruins in Guatemala. I spotted the national bird called a Quetzal. It kept hanging around my cabin so I nicknamed him Jake. |

Last four playoff performances from Nylander versus Guentzel:
Nylander- 30 games 14 goals 29 points. Guentzel- 21 games 11 goals 16 points.
Guentzel has been either great or a ghost in the playoffs. Nylander has been a more consistent postseason performer even if his highs aren't so strong. |

next training camp Monahan will start hyping how he "feels so much better" to his new team. rinse wash repeat every season. A LOT of habs fans didn't want to believe it last summer. He's probably got 1-2 years left in him, go retire Monny and start a family, dump your cash into the S&P500, some bonds and just live it up while you're young |

Why cherry pick just the last 4 and not their whole playoff careers? we are after all talking about two guys that are only 2 years apart in age and in Jake's last playoff appearance he was over a goal per game (8 goals in 7 games). Nylander has never done that and Nylander has 7 playoff appearances to Jake's 6. Nylander has never scored more than 5 goals in one playoff season.

So JR says they’d like another top 6 player. So why would Canucks trade one out to get one in & a UFA at that that will get a big new deal they cannot afford? POJ isn’t it. |

Stop it. Rangers/Islanders might be the most hated rivalry in North American sports. And it’s easily the most hated rivalry in hockey. More nonsense here |

Good point. If I was going to make a list of the most hated rivals in the NHL:
Edmonton-Calgary
NYR-NYI
Toronto-Montreal
Toronto-Boston
Toronto-Detroit
I'm not sure Boston-Montreal stands out above any of these others.
