Thanks NYN. Canucks keep making the same mistakes against the Kings. Maybe it’s about time they learn from that to be playoff ready.

Getting Lindy and Demko back should help. Might not be enough to overcome struggles against VGK and Kings if they are to face them post season. Winning the division is their best shot at getting the Preds for the first round. So they better take the remaining games like a playoff.

Well… we can only beat bottom teams of the league since TDL. Since there’s none of those we’re gonna go 0-4 in the playoffs it’s looking like.

We’re honestly going to play Vegas in the 2-3 series. We’re not playing good enough to keep the top seed and Edmonton wants it because they want LA. They do to LA the last 3-4 seasons what LA does to us.

The only thing abundantly clear with this team since teams playing for a playoff spot have been playing playoff hockey… is that this team is not built/capable of or willing to play playoff hockey.

Meh, we won't know if they can't play playoff hockey until they're playing in the playoffs. The playoffs are different, and there's no marker of how you finish the regular season is how you start in the playoffs.

How they're playing lately isn't inspiring confidence, but getting Demko back is huge and we'll see what sort of impact the most NHL-experienced coaching staff in the NHL will have on them.

Tough loss. Too me, it appeared as though some of the players weren't willing to make some of the necessary sacrifices, such as blocking shots, engaging along the boards or getting in hard on the forecheck.
Let's see if they make necessary adjustments, next game.

When we saw all the signs after ASB it's been about 6 weeks of basically .500 Hockey and without that hot start the first half PO's would have been a mystery. Demko back will help but all of the bad habits from last year are creeping back in. Hope Tocchet has a plan or it will be a short run.

When the game was out of reach (which was early lol) someone should have went after the player that hit Hughes from behind. This team is so fucking soft. Need something to bring that room back together.

Just wanted to let you know that you’ve been doing a great job. I stopped following the team last year but I still check in here a couple times a week to see what’s going on. Two questions:

1. Most experienced NHL coaching staff? Do you mean that the team has had in more than a decade?
2. Do you think that their current play is more about regression then it is about poor play? Their PDO in the first half of the season was sky high, and most of the national guys noted that teams simply can’t sustain that long term, and here you are. I watched all the Kraken games down the stretch and in the playoffs last year and it was the same for them. Unsustainable shooting % and a goalie playing above his average for a short stretch.

Canucks can more easily clean up their mistakes than the potential opponent Kings or Knights replicate their wins against them. Part of it is also confidence and handling pressure too. However, in the playoffs with home ice, the crowd gets behind the Canucks and that should be a boost for them to start well.

Wouldn’t say that is it as their 5v5 play and scoring generation has gone way up. It’s below average execution and untimely mistakes. They can deal with that. However you are right about goaltending. Not that Demko was playing out of his depth. He’s just a key part of the success.

Thanks Mr. Newbury...if that's your real name. One of the best parts of this season, and is it's pretty clear from this thread, is the Oilers fans long standing butthurt over the pounding we gave them early. I absolutely love it.

The boys will be fine.

Backups playing a starting role for multiple games only works for a short period, need demko back in there.

It happened late in the game, but there was an opportunity after he served his penalty, for someone to take on the player, as the LA coach put the player out on the ice. Unfortunately there was no response to a cheap hit.

Did you go to game 4 (Royals)?

Nice to see the team back on the competitive path.

Went to both 3 and 4. Game 3 was better but they still lost 6-5. They're gonna be a good competitive team next year. I'm still shaking my head a bit at Verhoeff. I can't believe how well he fit in our lineup at 15 years old against a powerhouse Portland squad.

Thanks, glad it's worth people's attentions.

1. I worded it poorly, but the Canucks' coaching staff have played the most NHL games than any other coaching staff... "Rick Tocchet, Sergei Gonchar and Adam Foote alone skated in 3,500 NHL games, far and away the most experience staff in the NHL." https://theprovince.com/s...hl-games-than-the-canucks

2. From what I've read their PDO has sunk, but their actual 5-on-5 play/shots/advantage has gone up. (It was below 50% before with the high PDO, and it's above 50% now.) I haven't seen anyone mention the specific PDO numbers lately, so not exactly sure what it's at. It's a combination of things – a little regression for sure, a little poorer play – so it feels like this is sort of the team people predicted in the summer: somewhat good bubble-ish team.

They just need their starting goalie back. It's pretty simple. Good enough to beat bad teams without him and are slightly worse that playoff teams without him. Put him on and were slightly better than most playoffs team and slightly worse than the Colorado etc.

I see. Though, I’m not sure I agree that playing experience translates to coaching success, cough Travis Green cough.

A lot of it has to do with going from a Goalie with a .916 save % to a Goalie with an .893 save %. Not a lot of teams out there can support that kind of drop off in the position.

I'm not sure if it does or not – cough cough Wayne Gretzky. But those three have really turned things around, and they seem to be good leaders, so maybe their experience will work more positively. Looking forward to seeing
