Not much to discuss. Draft lottery is tomorrow, maybe we win the lottery and move up to the 8th pick. Then at least we have something to talk about |

This is part of being an Islander fan. This is not a team that knows how to generate excitement. Hopefully we get some coaching news and Houda being replaced. I'll settle for smart type moves this summer that improves the team for the future. I'll understand missing the playoffs next year if they are building for the future. |

Not sure if you're joking, or if you're forgetting that only non-playoff teams get entered in the lottery. Isles are locked into picking 18th..........until Lou trades the pick for a veteran defenseman. - JohnScammo

PWHL Toronto has officially chosen Minnesota as its semifinal playoff opponent. Game 1 is Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Coliseum.
What an awesome idea (not the PWHL )
Imagine the first seed having to CHOOSE THEIR first round opponent, then the second choosing from the remaining teams and so on.....
The resentment and motivation of the underdog teams would be awesome!!!! |

Reviving this discussion on Snow saying it was ownership that blocked trading JT
I don't believe it. The only way the owners would insist on keeping JT would have been if Snow recommended it. - JohnScammo
Remember at the time of the JT saga, Snow was a essentually a lame duck. Ownership already knew by that time that not only was Snow a goner but Lou was coming aboard as the GM. I would bet Malkin may have felt that Lou could persuade JT to stay.
Additionally, I think folks are miscalculating the influence ownership has on signings and trades. A franchise player almost NEVER gets moved without ownership sign off. Yet potential moves often get squashed by them
This was the article with Snow, which was never disputed by Malkin and company

Yes, I remember that article. I didn't accept Snow's version at face value then, and I don't now either. Owners in general (Mario Lemieux is the obvious exception) don't know hockey well enough to make these decisions without cnosiderable input from their GMs. Yes, Malkin may have made the ultimate decision regarding JT, but only after serious consultations with his GM.
At the time of the trade deadline, Snow was the GM. I don't believe he was a lame duck at that point. I think he probably became a lame duck at season's end when the Isles missed the playoffs, and Ledecky forced him and Weight to face the media..........and they showed up in sweatsuits, looking clueless.
The fact that Malkin didn't dispute Snow's version of events from 5 years prior doesn't cause me to think that he agrees with it. More likely, he simply doesn't care to get into a back and forth with Snow in the media of stuff that doesn't really matter any more. |

Snow was coming off a disappointing season where they missed the playoffs by a point. They followed it up by totally collapsing between November and February, where they ended up close to 20 points out of a playoff spot. They were an on-ice disaster giving up 50+ shots in multiple games and averaging over 35 shots per game. It's not at all unusual for owners to freeze major maneuvers if they anticipate upcoming changes. As I said, owners squash trades all the time, since players are considered capital and losing a guy like JT would have been a terrible setback.
Additionally, I don't think ownership would have allowed Snow to flat out blame them for the JT Fiasco, given the terrible negativity the whole event caused, especially given the fact they had only recently purchased the team and were desperately trying to rebuild the image for possible stadium transition
It's obviously all speculation, but given what we do know, what's been said and what has not been said, I have a feeling Snow's story may not be far from the truth. |

I agree JS.
There’s a reason why Snow hasn’t been employed by a NHL team since his firing. The fact that he blames ownership on the JT fiasco is probably a big part of it on top of his disastrous job as a GM.
If Lou or any other real GM were here prior to the deadline and JT didn’t sign his ass would have been traded. No matter what the owners said. Hoping a new GM coming in could (at the 11th hour) convince a player to stay is absolutely insane. I don’t believe L and Malkin are that foolish with their biz assets/investments.
To debate the reasoning why a GM lost a teams franchise player for absolutely nothing is moronic. If they were headed to the POs and wanted him for the run I get it can happen and has. However, not when the team was a total sh!t show, ( not close to a PO birth)the staff was a total sh!t show run by a GM that for 10 plus years was a sh!t show. The guy was full of excuses. He never took responsibility for the sh!t that went down while he was GM. There’s no way he was taking responsibility for JT leaving. Even though he was the GM. |

So the thought is Snow should have traded JT even if his bosses told him not too. Just go and do it anyway?
I wish he did but I think that thought is pretty unrealistic. Snow just going rogue and doing as he pleases no matter what the owners of the team think. Gotcha.
That’s right up there with the owners giving Trotz an extra 4 million because they are nice guys but very, very, bad business men. |

He is only getting older and slower. I have to think most Leafs fans want him gone. Matthews probably wants him gone the most.

Just banking hard on the league accidentally dropping an Isles ball into the ball machine, which is coincidentally Cpt's wife's nickname also |

ISLANDERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH HOGBERG
EAST MEADOW, NY (May 7, 2024) – The New York Islanders announced today that goaltender Marcus Hogberg has agreed to terms on a two-year deal.
Hogberg, 29, spent the last three seasons with Linkoping HC of the Swedish Hockey League. The 6’5, 220 lbs. netminder posted a 2.51 goals-against average (GAA), a .914 save percentage (SV%) and a career-high 21 wins in 40 games last season.
The Orebro, SWE native was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the third round (78th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft and played for the Senators for three seasons (2018-19 through 2020-21).
Hogberg played 77 American Hockey League games with Ottawa’s top affiliate from 2016-17 to 2020-21, posting a 2.72 GAA and 0.907 SV%. In 2018-19 with the Belleville Senators, he posted AHL career highs in wins (21) and games played (39).
On the international stage, Hogberg played for Team Sweden at the 2022 World Championships, the 2014 World Junior Championships and the 2012 Under-18 World Junior Championships. |

Dubas did the same thing with his “I can’t see myself managing for any other organization”, only to sign with the Pens a week later. Seeing the pattern by both of them, it’s reasonable to assume those two colluded before July 1st 2018. |
