Well, except in '94. |

Rangers have a long way to go. Things reset every series. The Canes had the best PK in the regular season. Now they can’t kill. Their PP was over 30% last series. Now they can’t buy a goal. Swayman was phenomenal last series. Last game he looked human again. Etc..etc..

So why doesn't Carolina have much of a shot at joining the ranks of a 3-0 comeback? I mean the odds are very low in absolute terms. But I'd say compared to all of the other teams in history that have been down 3-0...Carolina has a better shot than most. Often when a team is down 3-0 its because they have been outplayed and clearly can't match up with their opponent. Like when Washington was down 3-0 it was obvious they were totally inferior to NYR. But Carolina has lost 3 games by a single goal, including OT and 2OT. They have outshot NYR by a wide margin. Anyone watching this series would admit that NYR is pretty lucky to be up 3-0.
Again, very difficult to win 4 in a row. I doubt they can do it. But might want to acknowledge that they have matched up extremely close with NYR.
Good blog though. |

Because this series is following the same script all Brindamour coached teams have had. They are a high shot volume team that tradeoffs on quality for quantity which can work great over large samples, but has consistently failed against an elite goalie like Shesterkin. When they lose a playoff series, they get humiliated every time. And it happens every time they encounter elite goaltending. |

"lucky" - SkjeiStadium
They have been. This series could easily be 2-1 in either team's favor with one bounce in either of the OT games. Give the Rangers credit, they've been the ones to get the W's. But again, these games have all been extremely close, neither team is running away with games. |

So because all 3 games were one goal games, NYR are "lucky"? Everything that NYR have done building this team has ZERO to do with luck...including the hiring of LAviolette, Housley, Peca, and long time goalie coach, Allaire (Best in the business). Rangers have more quality chances, and have gotten into the heads of the Canes players. Now...they have to close em out. That won't be easy. Saying NYR is in this position b/c of luck just screams Ranger hate. |

Yes I'm well aware of shot volume versus shot quality. This is a Carolina trait. I'm simply stating that all 3 games have been essentially a flip of the coin. This could easily be 2-1 NYR and everyone would be talking about how this might go 7. Could also very easily be 2-1 Carolina. The point is, this is not a situation where a team is down 3-0 and has been completely outmatched (ie Washington in round 1). So the comment about how it "doesn't look like Carolina has much shot at coming back from 3-0" seems pretty naive. The odds are stacked against ANY team coming back from 3-0. But based on how close these games are, I would say Carolina has a better shot of a comeback than MOST other teams that have found themselves down 3-0. This logic may be hard for some readers and authors to follow...
P.S. I said NYR is a bit lucky to be up 3-0. Doesn't mean their whole existence is based on luck. It's a great team. But being up 2-1 seems more "fair" based on how those first 3 games have gone. Again, the logic may be tough to follow. |

I'm gonna do my part to try and beat them. I'm going to put cash on them to win it all. If that doesn't work, nothing will. |

I think Florida can. Would be a heck of a series. - systemtool
So can Dallas, Avs, and Bos, and Canes (series ain't over yet)...would say Van/Edm too, but their goaltending is an issue, to say the least. If Demko comes back..Van on that list of teams that "can" beat NYR. Timing is everything..Whom ever is playing better at the time can win

No team has much change at winning four games in a row in a postseason series. Isn't the historical record <2% of teams accomplishing it? Especially one with mediocre at best goaltending and playing undisciplined on special teams. The CAR PP looks like Reirden is coaching them as they make many unnecessary penalties and turnovers. They've been poor at controlling possession which is a prerequisite to a successful PP and their PK is failing to clear the puck from the zone when they do gain possession. Winning the ES battle has never been a CAR issue. It's goaltending and special teams that have been and are yet again. Hence why everyone is tired of seeing the same thing repeatedly. Even Rags fans are recognizing how many low quality shot attempts this team makes which pose effectively zero threat to an elite goalie.
