THN’s Yearbook (I’m thinking already in print before the Guentzel trade) had Filip Lindberg slotted 4th one spot ahead of Joel Bomqvist. Juss sayin.

Tristan Jarry is still a decent trade piece to move up in the draft to take the shot at Iginla, while tossing in whatever it takes to make that happen.

Just an opinion of what should be the target... but prove me wrong.

*move up* possibly a poor choice of words… especially for nit-pickers.

You have a better idea for the PENS to attempt - or just this boards Kibitzer.

To get a top 10 pick their best option is to get a Time Machine. Go back to last summer and not make the Karlsson trade.

I am in favor or moving Jarry, but for an NHL-caliber player that can help the team now - not in 2-4 years. There are a few RFAs out there that need a pay raise, can the Pens find a trade partner not willing to pay the RFA that need a goalie. If Calgary moves Markstrom, could we get Sharangovich in a trade.

Would also like to see the Pens target a top 4 LD. Looking forward to seeing how the summer unfolds...

I don’t think we can really afford to spend more money on defense when we have to reconstruct half the forwards. We (frank)ed up with Graves but unless we can move him, I think we’re stuck with what we have.

I continue to be amazed at how many people overvalue Jarry still in any trade. If we trade him, its because we want a better goalie and we need to rid of him. I wouldnt expect much more than a mid-round pick. Too bad of a contract and too unreliable.

4th Period said Ned back to Pittsburgh is possible.

It’s mostly two specific people that think we’re getting anything significant back for Jarry. Personally I think we’ve backed ourselves into a position where our best hope is keeping him and hoping he catches lightning in a bottle to string together one consistent season and then offloading him.

Surprised nobody brought up Jake isn’t re signing with the canes.
Sounds like he wants 8 years @ 10 mill with a NMC

Just haven’t really followed to be honest. I haven’t been holding out hope that he comes back to the Pens so I haven’t been tracking his free agency. Happy he took an undervalued contract for his prime for us but woe to the team that signs that deal and hopes to compete for a while. Has strong Voracek vibes where it’s fair value for a couple years and then completely torpedoes. Best fit for that is a team that only has a two or three year window and doesn’t care about their cap situation beyond that. Not sure who that is at the moment. Probably Vegas?

I believe he can only sign for 7 years. So let's give him 11+11+10+10+7.5+7.5+5

6.2 mill cap hit.

That’s an $8.85 million cap hit…

Jarry makes league-average starter money and his performance this year was below league average for a starter, but not by much. Thus, in a vacuum his contract has a small negative value -- but there are a lot of teams that he'd be an upgrade for, and I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them view his contract as neutral value for their team. That would open the door to a hockey trade where we send Jarry out and get back an unexciting player who is league average at his role and paid at a league average rate and/or a mid-round pick.

I think the more likely scenario is Dubas doesn't find an acceptable hockey trade for Jarry and we bring him back to start next year, but I don't see this as a given.

I'm pretty sure the plan is Jarry/Blomqvist. I don't think they have any interest in trading Jarry this year.

Dubas has to at least listen to offers on Jarry. He's definitely a guy in the category of if a hockey trade that makes sense is on the table, you take it. Now, like I said, I don't expect that to be the case, but it wouldn't shock me to see it happen.

Gotta say... Great final this year. I'm torn between rooting for McD and Drai getting a cup and FLA (love their brand of hockey). I think FLA wins it in 7.

Taylor Haase talked to Dubas today:

-Dubas said if Jake was interested in the Penguins, they'd explore that avenue in free agency.
-No chance the team trades a pick for his rights, thus meaning they could only offer him 7 years
-Ned's status was partly dependent on Blomqvist's playoff performance in the AHL plus if the player would be interested in returning
-Dubas doesnt see a ton of spots to fill, so that gives them more cap flexibility to fill those roles
-The new NHL assistant and AHL head coach will hopefully be filled soon

I personally see little chance of a Jake return. Seems he wants big money and seems this is the exact kind of situation Dubas wants to avoid paying someone like him big money given his age and profile... and personally, I have no problem with either side's position. Jake was underpaid throughout his 20s and should get the biggest pay day possible, and Dubas shouldnt be looking to pay big money to guys Jake's age.
