I liked Mitchell as a 7th D option. Thought he was serviceable up until Lohrei started to get regular time. Not a bad cheap signing.

I'm guessing there will be a ton of hockey news and movement starting tomorrow. Going to have fun watching the game tonight. Kinda hoping it goes into OT. Would love to see the entire playoff come down to one goal.

Welp. That isn’t even close to the trade I wanted.

Ullmark for korpisalo (25% retained and 4 years left) Mark Kastelic and the bruins returned first rounder 25th overall.

Not entirely stoked about the return, but if they can flip korpisalo then maybe.

They need to dump korpisalo or this is a giant Sweeney loss

Guessing Ullmark isn't willing to discuss extensions, so rental trade value.

It would seem as though we may have over valued the goalie trade returns. Markstrom and Ullmark both getting lackluster returns.

Maybe, but korpisalo was a cap dump for Ottawa. Trade just doesn't make sense.

Would rather have ullmark at 5 and no first rounder than korpisalo for multiple years at 3 and a late first rounder. This trade is stupid as is.

Unless there's an extension he's a rental.
1st rounder + parts is typically the going rate.

They better have the foundation for a Swayman extension worked out already or he has the Bruins over a barrel.

But that 4 years... not sure I like that.

Korpisalo will be a very good backup for a team that plays defense. Definitely underwhelming return though. The Bruins can absolutely raise the value of Korpisalo and trade him later

Would rather Bussi get a shot than entertaining being stuck with korpisalo. I am not confident even if he finds success that yet another team is going to take a chance on him. We are basically banking that a team gets desperate with injuries.

Such a disappointment. Hopefully they do their homework on the first rounder.

I look at it your way too. 1 year rental on a 30 year old goalie. Korpse coming back is a "meh" thing but they did retain. I think he can play well in the Bruin system should Swayman go down or anything.
I also think other GMs knew Boston had to move a goalie and which goalie it would be so noone really wanted to pay up.

Plus he had a 15 team NTC and wanted to stay in the east. Limits the options some.

Just wish Korpse's contract wasn't another 4 years. Guess in 2-3 years the 3m won't seem all that much.

they can put Korpisalo in Providence and bring up Bussi, who still needs to be resigned btw. THey needed a first rounder, they didnt really need another goalie.

They can only bury 1m of his cap though, unless the rule has changed. That leaves 2m of dead cap space. Not optimal.

2 mil in dead space for 4 years if thats the route they want to go. My guess is that Sweeney is praying that Bob Essensa can work a miracle with Korpisalo. He did well with Ullmark, but Korpi is older and much worse than Ullmark was.

Bussi got a new contract for one year like a millisecond after the Ullmark trade. Would have much rather them traded for Forsberg if a goalie needed to come the other way. At least they could have just buried him for a year and been done with that contract.

Head shaker to say the least.

I don't understand how you have a better goalie than Markstrom and then go out and make that kind of wet fart trade. Should've held out.

Yep, still going to have $10-$11M tied up in goal!
Don't have much faith in getting something good with the 1st rounder either.

It's like Sweeny thought the market for goalies was drying up and he panicked. The SCF wasn't even finished when he made the deal - seems rushed.

Will be a project. Likely at minimum 2 years out if not more. I saw on Ty's twitter feed that Sweeney wasn't taking questions either until after the draft. Kinda cowardly. I think he knows he poop the bed.
