Time for KFC to start cooking.... I am really excited to see what unfolds this off season. Hopefully we have a competitive team taking the next step this season.

Congrats to the Panthers. Took new ownership especially and a new front office (they were just as bad as the Milbury Islander days bad) to turn things around. Another West Point vet like Foley (owner of Vegas).

I'm not expecting a high volume of moves from KD, but maybe 2-3 significant moves that have a major impact on the team.

My guess is that they're leaning towards drafting Levshunov, although I would prefer Demidov. If KD lands a young forward via trade (i.e. McGroarty or Zegras) then I see the logic in drafting Levshunov. But as you said, it will be an exciting off season. Well, at least from not until mid-July. From August to mid-September will be boring from a hockey perspective, but it's nice to take a break.

I did a mock draft online yesterday for the first 2 rounds. While I know it's totally unrealistic, these picks would be amazing.

#2 - Demidov
#18 - Yakemchuk
#34 - Hage (how was he available in the 2nd round??)
#50 - Letourneau

I was cheering for the Oilers but I am happy for Florida too. It was nice to see Luongo and Maurice finally win a Cup. On the ice, it was obviously great for former Blackhawks legend Gustav Forsling, he's a great example of not giving up on a young d-man too early (i.e. KK). Barkov is one of my favourite non-Blackhawks, outside of Bobrovsky he was the best Panther in the playoffs.

McGroarty would be tough to pass on if we could get him for the 18. He's been playing great since he was drafted, he's NHL ready, and there is the Nazar connection. If I'm KD, I'm meeting with Nazar to assess whether they should be concerned about any red flags. Maybe even have him informally ask his buddy whether there would be any issues signing with the Hawks.

That either removes some of the suspense or adds to that “wow” moment if they pick Demidov.

I think either would be good picks with time as always having the last word.

Agree with your other assertion on not giving up on guys too early, especially given that KK was the youngest dman in the league last year.

If Chicago get McGroarty it would probably be for a guy like Nazar. My concern is here’s a guy who wants to be moved because he isn’t given a spot in the lineup. Is that really the type of player, someone who believes he’s entitled, you want on the Hawks? Unless of course his real reason is he doesn’t want to play in Winterpeg.

And he lost his Dad this year, I don't think we can underestimate the impact that would have add on a young kid. I'm not saying KK will be a perennial all-star, but I expect he'll keep improving over the next few years.

I don't blame the Hawks (or Canucks and especially the Hurricanes) for giving up on Forsling. At the time those teams were in the hunt for the Cup and were in "win-now" mode.

Then i guess Peg will find a better offer from another team. Like Necas, or Zegras KD ain't giving up any of his prized prospects or high draft picks.

So when does this become a Winnepeg management issue?

Oh that's right management can do whatever they want besides tanking.

If Nazar is the price then I would pass. Maybe #18 this year and one of Allan, EDM or Kaiser, but that's about it.

What has Winnipeg management done in this case that makes it their fault?

Not sure, but i am curious to hear whatever comes out. Maybe it's the Blues fault because they kept in constant contact with Snuggerud and his family and told him he has a place on the roster when he's ready to sign his elc?

No matter how you want to slice it if you draft a kid going to college you still have to recruit them.

McGroarty's position is that the team does not have a development path for him and other prospects. I don't know if that's true or not, but I have a hard time believing that. It might be that an American kid doesn't want to play in a Canadian city. It wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last.

This was already pointed out on Twitter, but it's funny how we worry about Russians (i.e. Demidov) not coming over to the NHL when it's more common that American prospects refuse to play with a team (Canadian or otherwise).

Powers saying it’s nearly a lock they draft Levshunov. Kind of disappointed to be honest. I was hoping for another game breaking forward. Levshunov looks like a fine player in college, but I couldn’t help but envision us taking a top flight forward to take some heat off Bedard. If his comp is Sergachev and Demidov’s is a Kaprizov, idk I think I want demidov

I looked at both sides and couldn’t find anything Winnipeg management may have done. I hear McGroarty wanted out because he wasn’t guaranteed a spot. Do you want a guy on the team who demands his position or one who goes about his business and earns his spot? And as I said about Necas, if McGroarty comes to Chicago and he doesn’t immediately earn his spot, what do you figure he’ll do ? All I’ve said about both guys is be wary, they’ve already proven to be malcontents, KD doesn’t need that kind of drama as he’s rebuilding the team. And if it comes out that Winnipeg management are the problem I’ll criticize them, but so far I haven’t heard anything.

I’ve been to Winnipeg, I wouldn’t want to live there either and that may very well be McGroarty’s issue. Unless you love hunting and fishing, cold winters and mosquitoes bigger than Zedano Chara, there’s not much there.
