Make HB great again Ek. Cut down the ads, they've gotten so bad, especially on mobile, and hire some more writers. Or let fans write a piece a week for the teams not covered here. You'd get more traffic. Especially with some other sites getting shut down or shut off from public.

I know the ads are keeping people away. They are absolutely nauseating now. Always bad but have gotten so much worse.

One way to solve the problem Freeze the cap and stop all of the insanity of hyped up salaries Make every Gm responsible for staying within budget Why pay more and get less production Do you job instead of just spending money foolishly That is what a well run business would do But the NHL is not well run It is just about making the rich richer and the paying ticket holders poorer. These guys can live on what they are being paid without inflating it Trust me on that statement When is enough enough

I know this is hard for some to understand, but McDavid and Draisaitl have already made their decisions. Both are going to sign extensions with the Oilers. The amounts are basically known. They will take modest discounts, but nothing egregious that will upset the players union. Both have received extensive media training so will carefully say all the right things and allow this charade to play out. The talking heads in the media will speculate with a bunch of nonsense scenarios. Meanwhile the players and organization have it all figured out and are laughing at articles like this.

Every GM is already responsible for staying within budget, that's why the salary cap exists. Do you know how the cap is derived? it's 1/64th of the estimated net revenues of the NHL. They can't freeze the cap unless they believe revenues will not grow - or decline like during COVID. Unless they change from 50/50 profit sharing under the next CBA.

I understand that you really don't care about this, it's just an excuse to write the 1064th version of your bizarre whackjob rant about hockey players being overpaid when they're by far the lowest paid of the four major sports.

Right. Because not signing an already-agreed to extension is good for the team as it keeps the media focus on Edmonton.

Their season just ended like 14 days ago. They then signed 7 or 8 free agents. They are now actually searching for a GM. The first task for the new GM will to rubberstamp this Draisaitl extension, oh wait, I mean go through the charade of negotiating it and then getting applause for locking up a key piece as his first task.

I think with so many writers quitting, Ek is looking to generate some more cash to pay people to write. Because the ads have quadrupled in the last month or so.

What mechanism would they use to freeze the cap? To get the players to agree to that? Another lockout?

Regarding all of the ads, I presume I don't see them because I pay the $20 annually?

That would make sense, because I see zero ads.

I guess in B.C. you will put on your plaid shirt and "work" boots, manscape your little metro-beard, and drive your Prius to the protest to have someone else pay for your crap, right?

You complain about ads, and continually return to this site....and yet you can't give $20 to support it.

I know this is also hard to understand but the issue is less about his desire to re-sign and more aout the ability to fill out a competent team around him and McDavid. If, as anticipated, the two of them are re-sign for an estimated $28 - $30 million, you're left with Bouchard, who is also expected to earn ~$10 million. You already have Nurse making $9.25, which I won't even comment on, and Skinner needing a contract that will also likely end up around $8 mil. Add all of those up - you're pushing $60 million for 5 players. Even if the cap magically reaches $100 million in 2 years, how is Edmonton going to field 18 more (decent) players with $40 million to spare.

Edmonton would almost certainly be guaranteed a cup by trading Draisaitl to fill the gaps. To me, that's a bit easier to understand.

A guarantee of a Cup? Seriously. In most cases when you trade a player like Draisaitl, you normally lose that trade.

Do you people really go through your lives without uBlock Origin? I literally forget there is even such a thing as ads. Why do you subject yourselves to that when you can just choose not to? Such peasantry.
