Just in case anyone forgot:
The E-System was devised with the intelligent hockey fan in mind as a way for Eklund to give subtle clues to rumors that are posted, as well as to gauge the likelihood of a rumor turning into an actual trade or free agent signing.
E1 - This is a rumor that comes from a single reliable source not in any way directly connected to the players or teams involved.
E2 - This rumor is simply more than one reliable sources not in any way directly connected to the players or teams involved and not connected to each other. It does not have to equate to two E1's. It could be several E1's.
E3 - This rumor comes from a single source with ties somehow to the players or teams involved.
E4 - This rumor comes from more than one source with ties to the players or teams involved.
E5 - This rumor comes from source telling Eklund the deal is 100% done and just has not been announced yet. |

E1 - This is a rumor that comes from a single, unverified rumor account on Twitter
E2 - This rumor is has gained traction across a few unverified rumor accounts on Twitter
E3 - A verified national NHL media member has posted a vague Tweet to keep an eye on a player and/or team
E4 - This rumor has been picked up by all hockey media members on Twitter and is effectively done except for exact details
E5 - Elliotte Friedman already posted the completed transaction eight minutes ago but Eklund will still cite himself as the source - Atomic Wedgie

Oh please, here is the real E code explanation
E1: Ek throw poop to the wall to generate hits
E2: what Ek wants to happen
E3: what Ek really, really wants to happen
E4: what some guy who once dated a girl whose 3rd cousin worked in the Philly marketing dept told him
E5: Ek just saw a real insider’s post breaking the trade |

As you know, Ek, I consider the Hockeybuzz E system to be sacred. So I'm a little puzzled how this would be considered an E4.
Quick hit to start today...
My sources are all sounding similar regarding Mitch Marner's future in Toronto.
- Eklund
OK, great start. You've talked to multiple sources - all of which have demonstrated deadly accuracy in roomers past.
"The Leafs are counting too highly on Marner's desire to stay in Toronto. Expecting discounts that simply won't be there." one source stated,...
- Eklund
OK, but this strong roomer indicates that the Leafs are planning on keeping Marner, not trading him to Vegas.
... while another went further adding, "The Knights are currently entering into the first pre-season where they are noticeably weaker than they were the year before. Marner changes all that."
- Eklund
Sure, Marner may change that, but so would McDavid, or McKinnon, or Matthews. I"m still not seeing how Vegas being weaker translates into a deal being worked on for Marner.
I'm hoping that you have additional sources that have given strong indications of Marner being traded, because right now, this isn't even an E1.
I think of all the young kids here on Hockeybuzz who look up to you, Ek. Who dream of one day being a Hockeybuzz blogger. Don't crush their dreams - don't have them walk away, crying, after having lost faith in the Hockeybuzz E system.
Thank you.

No they are not.. Marner is a giant stubborn baby and his dad is an bumhole.. They will dig there heals in and walk as a FA just so they can win. The only winning they can do is off the ice.
He will be despised in his own city by this time next year. |

Eklund: Vegas "Closing in on Mitch Marner."(e4). Laine to Carolina? - Eklund
There is a great irony to Waddell, now with Columbus, trading Laine to Carolina...however the Canes feel the already strong Finnish presence and leadership in place could help see the wingers potential come to fruition.
Laine is still in player assistance and cannot be contacted by the team or any teams as per procedure. I know you like to throw things out there but this is just flat out irresponsible . |

Laine, is in assistance he can not be moved
Marner resigns for 8 x 9.5 |

This has been mostly debunked.
His agent can be spoken to.
He can speak to his agent.
He requested the trade.
The team gave permission for his agent to speak to people.
I suppose it's POSSIBLE that he sits and waits until he's out of the program before contacting his agent for a full debrief of all the proposals. But that seems unlikely. |

Laine can absolutely be moved.
The teams just can't contact him directly until he's out. |

So instead of using their cap space to extend Jarvis and Necas...Carolina is going to acquire Laine and his $8.7M cap hit. And they will do so without being able to speak to the player or welcome him to the organization, but simply based on Laine's agent saying he is eager to score 50. Sure. Makes sense.
Meanwhile, Toronto decides to wait until after the draft and after free agency and then will finally trade Marner, opening up cap space for what...Tyson Barrie and Daniel Sprong?

Vegas already has no cap space to bring in Marner. Are they trading Theodore and Karlsson to bring in Marner.?
Leafs will regret trading Marner. IMO.
Vegas is already starting to feel the pains of being in on every high priced player. The depth that won them a cup is long gone. |

How can the Leafs regret trading Marner when they aren’t trading Marner? |

Marner 50% retained to Vegas for Ilya Samsonov |

Laine has been in the player assistance program for the last 4-5 months. He can’t be moved. So there is no “trade talk”
Vegas has nothing to offer the Maple Leafs for Marner.
I swear. These rumours are just made up |

Why? He just wants to play center and get more looks on PP1. With Kuznetzov leaving, that's in the cards now. If we can get Laine without Necas moving the other way, there's another wing for him. |

I thought it was like having a NMC when you're in player assistance. Like being on IR.
