5 mins of 5v5. Honestly can't remember if they ever did 4v4. I remember games where both teams went into a shell at the 10 minute mark of the 3rd period. It was torture. People would leave the arena silent like a loss because they just watched 15 minutes of sludge. Getting the point still felt like a loss. Just my recollection.
- madmike71

In 1999 they changed it to 4v4

"The NHL reimplemented the OT period, in the regular season over 40 years later, this time with a five-minute, sudden-death period. The league continued with the 5-on-5 format until 1999, when it changed to 4-on-4 play for the regular season.

It was also the same season that teams got a point if they lost in OT and two points for winning. If no team scored in OT, both teams earned a point.

The shootout was put in place in 2005 after the NHL lockout. If no team scored in the overtime frame, then a shootout would decide the winner. This eliminated ties completely in the game of hockey.

Finally, the current 3-on-3 format was adopted in 2015, and there have been no plans on going away from it. "

0% for Tanger in A1/60...that didnt sound right...upon further inspection he only had 11 assists in 63 games that season, 9 of which on the PP...so the 2 ES apples didn't even register on the card at all? like not even 1% or 2%? haha

They might not have been primary apples.

4 points is too much. If a team can get 4 points in a game and the other team 0 points you would most likely have a clear playoff picture by January hahaha

Enlighten us... Explain the math. I mean, the whole idea of the loser point is to keep the standings points close right to the end of season for closer payoff races... So how would no loser point at all along with teams getting 4 points instead or 2 help with this?

Honestly, I think Yohe makes poop up. The entire team came out with C’s on their jersey’s at practice after he ran it. Including Adam’s, Cooke, and Orpik. Just like everyone hated Smith and now Sid skates with him in the offseason.

Yeah, man. They HAVE to talk about something or they lose their job haha. I do think Yohe is one of the better ones but he is still speculating most of the time. Look at Rob Rossi two weeks ago saying Sid was just about to sign....

Also, these guys, these NHL players, are like a brethren. They understand each other, their current lives and the lives they've led to get where they are better than anyone else. They have unspoken codes with each other. Even guys who fight in a game will go for a beer or meal after a game. They may have disagreements in the locker room but they don't cling to this sh!t like fans and media do. Media and (most) fans both overblow sh!t and run with it. I wasn't one bit surprised to see those guys skating together in off season...captain of the locker room/team that supposedly hates Smith hahaha

I don't ever remember anybody reporting they hated Smith. Your second paragraph is exactly how it works. Nobody is going to show outward hostility to a fellow player unless he does something personal.

I heard Yohe talking on the radio how some of the players were wondering if they were getting Smith's best, because he wasn't doing a good job of hiding his feelings about the trade. It wasn't nasty, ugly or hate. Smith was blindsided by the trade and had trouble adjusting. Sid is the ultimate "good guy". I bet he was sympathetic to Smith.

Smith was traded one year after coming here. That's how we know he wasn't a good fit.

You're right, hate was never said, that's me exaggerating. However, just like I said back when this first started being said, Smith had to leave the team, and teammates, he was with for years, that he just won a cup with away from Nevada's awesome all year weather where he had his family rooted. Of course he didn't like that hahaha he's human....and that's easy for a journalist to run with IMO.

They were probably planning a party, Sid wanted to have it at his place, Orpik and Cooke wanted to go to the bar and Geno said “Guys Sid’s the (frank)ing captain!” Rossi reported that everyone hated Adam’s but he made it on Flowers tribute helmet.

When I see a meme/graphic like this I cant help but feel Dubas should have just tried to load up and really go for it again another season or two...just for Sid...because Sid deserves it...

I didn't realize Sid was that close to being the all time face-offs winner until I saw that graphic. He averages about 11.51 FOW a game...so 943.8 for a full 82 game season...needs 535 to pass Bergeron

Bitta math for ya Vic....

Oof just looked at pensburgh's top players under 25 from 3 years ago:

1) John Marino
2) POJ
3) Sam Poulin
4) Filip Hallander
5) Valtteri Puustinen
6) Tristan Broz
7) Nathan Legare
8) Filip Lindberg
9) Calle Clang
10) Isaac Belliveau
11) Joel Blomqvist
12) DOC

16) Jonathan Gruden

That was the best youth in the system three years ago, and it's possible they don't get a regular roster player from the entire top ten. Blomqvist and DOC seem the best of the bunch. Everyone below them besides Gruden has washed out or is about to.

"Bare cupboards" for well over a decade now, man. I think Broz has at least a tiny miniscule bit of potential. Our top under 25 just three years later looks a lot more promising than that list did 3 years ago. The 3 prospect pieces we received for Jake (Ponomarev, Koivunen and Cruz Lucius) alone would be on that list you put there if it was 3 years ago. Then there's guys like Yager, Howe, Brunicke, Pickering and more.

Beyond bare to have so little in a 7 year spread. Also crazy to look back and see the people Blomqvist was behind.

I agree it's better now, though not sure it's that much better yet. It's still mostly long shots, no established NHL talent. Yager and the goalies elevate it though. Would be interesting to evaluate.
