The only real insight from this Flyers 2024 NHL Draft: All-Access video is that Homer still has a seat at the pre-draft meeting table.

https://youtu.be/_-A8EnBXw80?si=As0bgJUXwzRoW73A

Nothing juicy like when they accidentally showed their rankings for the 2013 draft.

The video editors probably learned their lesson. (at least someone in that organization has)

Yes, by Danny's invitation. He oversaw the Draft for Clarke and then was GM himself. He doesn't do scouting trips he and hasn't in many years. He's not part of the scout meetings. Not sure if he still watches video, etc. But he hasn't been part of the nuts and bolts of the process in many years. He's either golfing, playing pickleball, with Doreen or with his grandkids.

I can't help but think of a court jester every time I see Jones. It's like he is waiting for someone to sit on a whoopie cushion

I'm reasonably certain that they don't really care about the optics of PH being one of many in the room. For some around here, it's like PH and BC are really the little green men behind the curtain pulling all the strings and trying to keep it a secret from the rest of the world because... well... reasons.... It's silly. I am certain they simply advise, if asked. Otherwise, they're keeping their nose out of decisions and letting DB rise or fall on his own merit, as they should.

That said, am I in agreement with DB's handling of TK and SL? Or contract extensions to GH and RP? NO! I think they should trade those assets at high value while they embark on an asset acquisition binge ahead of 2025 draft and avoid long term, NMC contracts with aging vets. But that's just my worthless opinion. I'm not in the room and I'm not running an NHL team just like everyone else here who aren't either.

That's my 2 cents.

PH only has one job and that is to ensure the brainwashing of Flyers anti-tank culture and playing the right way is followed through to the next generation of leadership.

Of course he doesn’t do any of the day to day.

Yes, please share the inside information you have. Do you have transcripts of what was said in the room or phone calls between the two?

Only have to look at their half ass retool, and passing over Buium.

The old philosophies are very much alive. They are too stupid, and arrogant to ever really do something different.

So its known that Homer said draft Jett over Buium? Maybe Homer said to DB that he will be crushed for passing on Buium.

Maybe Homer said, where's the bourbon and beer and could have cared less who was drafted and just wanted to play golf.

Right. The most incestous front office in the NHL just happens to be doing the same poop year after year - but it’s all by chance.

Those alumni are all rats. Every single one. Let them stick to doing good work in the community, trot them out for some handshakes in the game days.

Clarke didn’t influence the hiring of Fletcher? Who supported the hiring of Torts? Jones to POHO? The hiring of other former Flyer family that was brought on this summer?

It’s those buffoons helping to hold this team back from an actual rebuild out of some BS Flyer pride. You can bet your ass on that.

That specific piece of information is not known. But the DNA of the Flyers in the cap era was established during the Holmgren era and it has not changed at all. They are on their third GM since Holmgren was relieved of his duties. Same ole, same ole.

So any idea why Danny would invite him to sit in on a draft-related meeting?

Flyers ranked 3rd in the NHL - for cap hit.

https://capwages.com/

Three more years of Ellis (and Bryz), two more of Hayes and Atkinson, and one more of Johansen, Petersen & Angelo. Tony still doesn't have a team for 24-25, so maybe he'll be black in orange and black.

You are about 200 years late to that conclusion. It's just now that people admit it.

People base most of their decisions on how they feel about something rather than the pros vs cons of facts. Frequently the inferior product that has the better marketing wins.

Blue Ray vs HD DVD
Betamax vs VHS
Cigarettes for a very long time after they were known irrefutably to be bad.
Coke vs Pepsi
What people eat
How much they eat
Ponzi schemes
Housing Market collapse
etc.

As long as people are comfortable/happy they let someone else worry about the facts until/unless it becomes their problem.

Blue Ray won, not because it's a superior format, but because Sony released movies solely on Blue-Ray, and they put them in all their PS3 to have a ready base.

Anyway, back to sports. The facts say if you want to win the Stanley Cup the overwhelming favorite is to tear it down to the studs, draft elite talent, and build from there. They say the winners predominantly have elite talent at certain positions. Analytics say to avoid certain players or that certain players are undervalued. All facts.

The average fan doesn't care about the facts and doesn't want to care. Never has but i hear the Bullies won a cup 50 years ago, let's raise another glass.

Appleyard recently came up with a roster of best Flyer draft picks from the past 20 years. The 7th best dman being Mark Friedman is not great.

van Riemsdyk-Giroux-Konecny
Farabee-Couturier-Lindblom
Laughton-Frost-Downie
Maroon-Patrick-Cousins
Foerster, NAK

Provorov-Gostisbehere
York-Sanheim
Sbisa-Hagg
Friedman
