From the last blog:
A) There is no "good Lord".
B) Im not suggesting he will be worth 6m....but I could see him asking for it.
Besides, people seem to believe the cap will be at a billion dollars in a few years, so JT at 6m wouldnt be the worse thing.
Does Tre do 4m x 6 or 6m x 4? Which would be worse?
Or does he let him walk? |

Yes. Walk him. Bye.
He's in offensive decline and not worth the money to be a top-six player at 35+.
He's terrible defensively and does nothing to improve the bottom-six forwards.
He has no role on this team if he's not scoring points. |

Too bad for your argument he’s still 35% more productive than an average second line C |

Good move. A captain change is exactly what this team needs. |

Gotta respect how some people don't let little things like facts get in the way of their proven horrible opinions. |

Leaf fans are simply too used to top line production from their second liners.
Thanks for that (frank) up Dubas lol. |

from last blog.. reply to wedgie
re Tavares
his scoring regression last season is more PP time
his 5v5 has been consistent the last 4 seasons
29
30
39
37 (2023-24)
which is pretty much consistent through his whole career. except his 1 outlier season (first with leafs)
im not as worried about him as much as most seem to be. he is actually aging well imo |

Mike Augello: Matthews To Be Named Leafs Team Captain - mikeinbuffalo
Thanks Mike, the right move for this team. I agree with you completely that JT will be a Leaf this year, despite what UG and his four banned alts say. Not entirely sure he will stay beyond this year, but it is far less important to focus on JT in a reduced role than what is next for Marner.

Can’t do math huh?
Average point production for a second line C is 50P… so to get to 65P is a 30% increase and he was still a couple games shy of a full season. |

counter point....it really doesnt do anything..at least not in regards to actual wins/losses..but it makes fans feel better
also..AM was set to get the C in 2019 ..but his actions...nixed it

in Tavares last season in NY he scored 39 points at 5v5 in 1156 min
last season he scored 37 in 1062min.
pretty good for a 4th liner |

35 in 1121 5 on 5 minutes according to moneypuck.
Which is less than Max Domi and barely more than Matthew Knies, surprisingly.

Is that regular season math or playoff math?
I'd do the playoff math but then you'd edit my post and threaten to ban me. |

interesting how PP skews things. Matthew Tkachuk had 39 and Barkov 38, also less than Domi
also on money puck, JT scored 15, but 21 expected. he had some bad shooting luck to boot |

JT scored the OT winner vs Tbay for the only Leafs second appearance on how long? And also since you mention playoff maths….
The 3 core Leafs playoff careers in G5-7:
Matthews - 19 gp, 416.87 mins of TOI, 8 goals, 13 pts, 1.15 G/60, 1.87 pts/60
Nylander - 21 gp, 398.49 mins of TOI, 7 goals, 17 pts, 1.05 G/60, 2.56 pts/60
Marner - 21 gp, 465.70 mins of TOI, 1 goal, 9 pts, 0.13 G/60, 1.16 pts/60
Let Marner walk. Bye. |
