In this episode, we talk about what the realistic expectations are for Sean Couturier
- bmeltzer

https://www.yardbarker.co...ack%20surgery%20on%20Feb.

According to a data model developed by Dom Luszczyszyn of The Athletic, Philadelphia Flyers captain Sean Couturier has one of the 10 worst contracts in the entire NHL, coming in at No. 7.

Yea, that didn't age well. I thought it was a mistake when they signed him due to all the hard miles he already had on his body and he's aged pretty much like John LeClair after he took to many crosschecks to the back. Since John is on the team payroll maybe he could give Coots some advice. Coots had 10 years of very hard miles before even signing the contract.

Remember that Fletch is the same guy who signed Suter and Parise to 13 year contracts.

"This is a great day in the history of the Minnesota Wild," GM Chuck Fletcher said in a conference call.

As Suter currently has 2 teams paying him buyout money, this worked out great ... for Suter. And Fletcher is a guy who doesn't spend a day unemployed.

That said, if Torts doesn't acknowledge that Coots isn't the same player as he was a few years ago, Coots might not finish the season but Torts, much like Fletcher, doesn't worry about tomorrow.

Right now given the past two seasons clearly the contract is not aging well. However, if Couts comes back this year and scores 20G and 40A and plays 75 or so games, what will they say then?

Kolosov gets a new agent. Looking more and more likely Kolosov wants out. Are we going to blame Briere and the Flyers for this one also?

That depends. Did the Flyers also screw this up like they did with Gauthier?

For someone who gives Hextall no slack, you want to give Fletch a pass? You don't think Hexy was mandated to resign the aging stars in PIT? We acknowledge that Comcast will never tear down the Flyers today but Hexy still get's crap for not tearing it down?

Pick a standard and apply it to both GMs.

this has nothin to do with saint ronnie. the saint ronnie fan club still going strong.

I see you didn't answer the question. Not giving chuck a pass at all, he was a terrible gm

That it's still a bad contract.
Also, you seem to rely on IFs a lot in your arguments.

The question you posed is designed to give Chuck a pass on the Parise/Suter signings.

As a fan, Chuck's name is on the paperwork so no he doesn't get a pass.

I will say that the current FO is much more media savvy than the last one. Hence the hiring of a TV broadcaster to go on the offensive to spin things constantly. How many glowing articles about the Flyers have been sourced through Jones? How many social media posts, interviews, etc?

Anyway, he's not gone yet as far as we know. If he does go, the PR will do a good job spinning it.

I wouldn't put my money on those numbers EVER occurring again as far as Couts is concerned. I hope I'm wrong, but he is probably one more back injury away from retirement, and yes, I hated that contract the day it was signed because of all the hard miles he already had on his wheels.

Just stop and think about where you are posting. There are those on here that just love when stuff like this happens so that they can continue their whineathon on here. Guarantee he will get blamed by the peanut gallery on here.

That’s a big “if”. He has to stay healthy. But if he can be that 20G and even 50 pt. , guy then along with his two way game and leadership he will justify, somewhat, that contract.

Here is where we are posting. The majority of those that post in a negative light have a legitimate reason to do so and provide logical reasons why. Then there are those such as you that just whine about what they perceive as whining. With zero substance or intelligence behind it. The reason being that they simply can't justify it and if you want to just be eternally optimistic, that is your right but it's simply not reality.

I get your point though….like when Snider mandated…or was heavily influenced the Bryz signing that led to the departure of Bob. Ownership should stay out of personnel decisions and let the hockey people do their job. It never ends well. I think Fletcher would have talked with agents and it was more their ask then Fletchers idea….he’s just the dummy that talked ownership into that being a good idea.

Cracks me up when folks say that people are whining about the whiners. That makes no sense whatsoever. Hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but when it becomes the same ole negative gibberish (complaining) day after day it becomes WHINING! And that's a fact Jack! Thanks! Oh, and for the record I am a realist (logic whatever personality type), so certainly not the eternal optimist. I mean, just look at my comment about Couts a little while ago. That wasn't very optimistic.

Ya gotta admit it’s not a good look….they basically signed the other 27 year old Russian in Fedotov….whom Kosolov played just as well in the KHL as, and anointed him the backup in Philly and Kosolov, a guy with two solid seasons under his belt in the KHL as a Phantom?
Why not tell the kid it’s a competition? That is on the organization. 100%

Oh yeah, I'm certainly not absolving them of blame here. I mean, just the basics of putting a kid in a hotel room for a month that is in a foreign land and doesn't speak the language is a bad look. I'm just saying that this will be another opportunity for those that enjoy such things to lambaste Danny boy again. The kid made a commitment to come over here and it sounds as if the organization treated him as a second class citizen. Not a good look at all. Not to mention Fedotov scares me. His lateral movement looks sloooooooooooowwwww...

from the outside looking in, flyers should have put much more focus on kolosov than the Ivan. Seeing comments briere made in the past ( about this situation) that they learned from this tells me they didn't do everything in their power to keep him happy and focused. Guy speaks little if any English I assume. How the hell do you not have a person in place when he steps off the plane to help him get acclimated and be around him every day.

If the flyers did bend over backwards and give him all that he needed then not much they can do. How many believe they did that? Again not a good look from an optical standpoint at all.

They went the extra mile to get Fedotov over to try to save their season during the collapse last year, that's why they hyped him up and he got that contract. Promises were made. Kolo is out of luck for at least this year.
