BUF should offer him $9M per. Slight overpay. DET would match but at least you’d be hurting them a lil bit

1st, 2nd and a 3rd is peanuts for a guy like Raymond

There is a minor detail here...Raymond has to SIGN the offer sheet. Unless it's a gross overpay, why would he do this?

If the Wings match, the relationship is fractured.

If the Wings let him go, he goes to Buffalo who already have Tuch and Quinn playing right wing. Raymond would likely slot above them, but why exactly is Buffalo making an aggressive play to address an area that isn't really a weakness?

Also, Buffalo's cap situation isn't what it seems. They haven't signed Krebs yet, so they don't have $8.5M. Likely closer to $7.5M if he just accepts a qualifying offer. Raymond isn't going to sign for $7.5M. So that alone says this isn't happening. Going forward, Buffalo has to sign Byram, Quinn, Peterka, Tuch is a UFA in 2 years, and the Skinner dead cap jumps to $4.4M, then $6.4M.

So none of this makes sense to me...

Never. Winnipeg along with ten other teams have no writers on HockeyBuzz.

I'm not 100% sure but by a quick glance, Philly sends Rasmus Ristolainen to Utah for a 6th or 7th round pick with $0 salary retention.
Then Ellis LTIR as well as Johansen or his comes off for breach. Then sign Seider to offer sheet at $11.5 by 7 years. True number 1D for the Cup contention in 2 or 3 seasons out. Which will be conditional also to landing a franchise goalie as well. Maybe it could work out numbers wise as cap continues to go up and dead cap space drops off. "LET'S GO FLYERS!!!!"

I'm sure Utah would take Ristolainen as an extremely expensive 3RD behind Durzi and Marino with some great assets attached. Risto on his own merits is a massive liability.

Why do it ? It only works if it is on a cash strapped team. Yzerman has 17 mil to work with. All you would do is open yourself up to retaliation. Plus not get the player. Would be a less than brilliant move !

Love it but doubt Utah takes Rasmussen without at least 33 percent held

And why would Utah want Risto at his salary?? They could just offer sheet Raymond themselves.

I don't think it is over and this is why:

Montreal should definitely go for it.

I don't get the impression the new Utah owner wants the club to be a landing spot for bad contracts and in a perpetual rebuild.

We are talking about the same person right? Steve Yzerman has never not taken advantages of all related hockey issues whether it be circumventing the salary cap to load up before the playoffs or cheating on every faceoff he ever took during his playing career. We're from Philadelphia, and to put us closer to winning the Cup again, you better be able to burn a bridge or two and not look back. He can't afford to match the offer smart guy. But then again you are a Penguins fan and your window is slammed shut so it's easy to forget what it's like when your team is going up and not down. And we're doing it WITHOUT multiple #1's and a #2, and #3 pick 4 years in a row.

Are the Flyers really on the way up? They really seem to like just being in a perpetual rebuild. Pretty sure most Pens fans are OK with a rebuild and will take the 3 cups Crosby has won. What's the Flyers excuse for having to rebuild when they haven't had any real success in what, almost 50 years?

I can’t tell if you are being sarcastic. Did Yzerman circumvent the cap at Tampa, or was that his successor? I’m also not remembering how he cheated with faceoffs. Wasn’t that Draper? Seriously, I’m curious, so please remind me…

The sweetener to take Risto will be more than Briere should consider. Expect at least an unprotected 1st to be involved.

Exactly

Same with Mo Seider.

Imagine this:
Buffalo signs Lucas Raymond 5 years @9.16M (1st + 2nd + 3rd)
Anaheim, Calgary or another team sign Moritz Seider 5 years @9.16M
