Making the jump straight from the CHL to the NHL isn't that common - but there are a number of high performing CHL players who have. Usually it's top-10 prospects who make that jump, not someone smaller like Cowan - but Marner did the same thing where he went back to the CHL for one more year, like Cowan just did, and then came back and made the team.

I do think Marner is significantly better than Cowan, but Cowan has a drive to him that may get him there. When I think of Cowan I think of guys like Tucker and Gallagher - undersized shift disturbers with offensive talent and a motor that wants to go. Each of Tucker and Gallagher took 2 full seasons.

I'm in no rush for Cowan. He'll be ready when he's ready.

I believe last year 2 CHL players jumped immediately to the NHL, and the year prior no one lasted from the CHL - but an NCAA guy made it and some Euro players.

I had the luck to watch the Lightning draft some steals in the middle to late rounds and have them come out of nowhere and I guess it got me a little spoiled. It feels like the Leafs are due for one of those diamonds in the rough that actually pans out big. It seems like it hasn't happened in recent times. I wish Cowan would be that guy or Minten or any of them with names I don't know.

Nobody knew who the (frank) Brayden Point was until suddenly they did and even then, he still flew under the radar until he started clutching his way to Cups. I wanna see Cowan just steamroll his way through camp and force the team to keep him around and then see him flourish and never get sent back. Leafs need that.

If we all get together, hold hands, and wish with all of our hearts, we can make it true.

Keep in mind that Brayden Point still spent his D+1 and D+2 years with Moose Jaw in the WHL and did play for Canada's WJC U20 team as well as having played for Canada in the U18 and U17 tournaments. If I recall there were two knocks against Point - the obvious one was his size, but the second one was his skating, which at the time was considered below average. He had demonstrated that he was a leader - like in his draft year he put up 91 points in Moose Jaw and the next closest kids - guys 2-3 years older - put up nearly 40 points less in a similar number of games.

But undersized kids who don't skate that well - like Jeremy Bracco or Kyle Wellwood - don't fare that well in the NHL.

The difference was that Point made it his focus to improve his skating and that sort of singular drive is what set him apart from everyone else.

I've said before that I used to work with Mike Peca's brother, Dave. Dave was one of those guys who's just good at everything - including hockey. I asked him about it and I recall he basically said that Mike had the drive and never stopped trying to improve his game and work on details and blah, blah, blah - while he simply just liked playing hockey.

Always scoop a pair of tickets for my brother and I for Home Opener. Occasionally, I get another from wife, Pops, buddy, etc. - that was the was the case last season and agin this season.

Let me know (PM) if you’re interested in the pair. They are in the Lower Bowl 18 rows up aisle seats. Last season a Sens fan from that board bought them from me. Hoping for a Buds fan this time…feels less sleazy eh.

Sorry about not replying but I was out doing my walking today, got 20.5km in so far, been a month now since I’ve been at least at 10km a day now, 20km is my average the past 7 days

I get what you were saying about Robertson and the idea of moving him, what you’re saying makes sense however I think holding him makes more sense primarily because it’s only year two for Treliving and this could be the GM doing nothing more than setting a bar to make sure upcoming RFAs don’t think doing this will work, especially the larger ones he likes to draft.

That's pretty impressive for an old loadie musician who has had his brain sliced and diced for medical science. And with smoker's lungs. It's actually inspirational to a fellow old loadie with smoker's lungs who should get out and walk/bike more. I kayak for about 3-4 months per year during fossil season, but I'm largely a potato the rest of the year.

My wife has been pestering me about getting out and walking more every year when the weather cools down. I think I'll give in this year and stop resisting.

Glad to hear about the kayaking tho, that and the use of a bike. Those are a couple of things I’d like to do but I play it safe. I’m hoping not to become a potato either, just hit a solid month for the first time today, since Aug 6th I’ve been 10km or far more daily, average of the last month is 19km.

And walking is great, it gets you looking at places differently, and hell you’ll find some coins once in awhile still too lol, so yeah get at that

I literally got invited to Evergreen Park tomorrow between 1 and 3pm for some musicians playing and some free food and whatnot. One of my fedoras won something again

Sweet! The cycles today look nice to ride for sure!! Totally get why the length differences differ as well, “the weather” and “other plans for the day” are two very good reasons why some trips are shorter
