Simply unacceptable, if this continues over the first ten games of the season it’s time to go shopping for a coach. Dan Campbell needs to have a chat with Lalonde.

This was absolutely BRUTAL to watch.
Fact is…..Lalonde is Blashill 2.0. I have zero faith in this coach.
This OVER THE HILL and OVER RATED BUNCH of so called hockey players are a half assed team that is beginning to make The Detroit Dead Things era.
LOOK GOOD.

That game is absolutely nothing like what we'll see in the regular season. When I coached as my son was growing up, we were a "second tier" AAA team. Too good for to play actual tier 2, but nowhere near as good as the top AAA teams in the country. Whenever we'd play teams that we didn't have a chance against, including the top Canadian AAA teams, we'd play a modified box system designed to keep the play outside and gum up the slot. The goal was to make it really hard to score, and hope we'd get some lucky bounces and some odd man rushes if they pressed too hard. It's very boring hockey, but the right type of hockey when you're outmatched. If the players are committed to it, and the goalie is outstanding, and you get a little luck, you have a chance.

That's exactly what the Leafs did last night. In the D-zone, they always kept four guys in the box, one man on the puck. For Detroit, 22 of 30 shots were outside of that box. The Leafs won because they got a few odd man rushes at the end of shift or lucky bounces, and their goalie played outstanding. No NHL coach would play that system with their A team, and Detroit won't see it again, unless it's in the pre-season.

Don't let yourselves get worked up over a pre-season game.

Looked to me that 1 team was looking for the regular season to start while the other were a group of guys looking to impress mgmt to get a spot in the regular season lineup. We shall see if the efforts are different next game with the roles reversed.

I acknowledged it’s a preseason game, but the lack of effort was frustrating. :
There is a desire to find the positive, but it would be digging. This was an awful watch. The “B” team seems to put a lot more into their games than the regular roster does. It’s preseason, maybe there is an avoidance of injury at play. That doesn’t make it less terrible to watch

It’s been an easier watch with the “kids” and PTOs against teams that aren’t Chicago. After the Nylander issue in particular, it’s easy to see why players who aren’t fighting for a spot would be holding back. Still, this was close to the regular lineup and it was a rough watch. The chances missed to get the power play clicking were tough to watch. There isn’t a ton of preseason left to “flip the switch”

Was hard to watch, for sure. However, there are some things that indicate this team is on the upswing. Kasper looked pretty solid. Has a way to go, no doubt, but there was some definite chemistry with him, Tarasenko, and Kane. Kane had a really sweet pass to Tarasenko, but failed to find the net.....but the entire sequence leading up to that shot was solid and showed that line can be a solid threat.

Talbot was solid, given his age and years. He's been rocky so we know that there's going to be concern.....seeing Swayman to Detroit as a possibility, good write up in a DRW column, I just don't see it as a viable option. Truth is, our Gs are merely place-holders until Cossa is ready to jump to the NHL. G is a major concern.

Overall D was shaky, but I was surprised to see Holl dialed in, Petry was a big body, and Chiarot was in the right place.......all *MOST* of the time. BUT, there is such a huge D gap.... Eddy took a couple of silly cross-checking penalties, but his reach and outlet passing was really good. He's going to be a valuable asset in our D corps down the road, I'm excited to see his growth with a full season.... I'd watched Johansson in an earlier game, there's some potential there that I don't know many people saw. He's NOT a 1st line guy by any means......but I think he'll be a decent D dude.

This is preseason, but we need to look at trends overall compared to last year; it's in our nature. There are lingering concerns w/the PP that started showing toward the end of last season. Watson & Motte will be nice to have, but who goes down to bring them up? Waivers, etc... is going to be a bear to manage. Berggren has been "meh" in my opinion. He can score, his passing is pretty solid, but he needs to show the flash that he's shown in his previous NHL stints, he can be a stud, but he needs to step up quickly.

Listen, this will NOT be a team that is thought of as a SCPO contender, and that's an issue....we've been rebuilding for a while, so we should see some growth in the team. Personally, I think this could be a team to watch as they *could* sneak in.

6 sleeps, y'all......

Hope those in the south-east (Feds, etc..) are doing well. Be safe and help those that need it...........

My biggest concern of the rebuild is Yzerman has drafted 59 players over the past six drafts, and a whopping two of them are on the big team. If Eddy makes the team this year, that's three. The history shows that next year will be 4, the following year 5, etc. If we're only producing one drafted player per year, it's going to be a very long rebuild. It's been 4 years since a drafted player has made the big squad. I get they need to develop, but they better start adding 2 to 3 drafted players to the roster per year, or it'll be a never ending rebuild.

I am afraid that Y is trying to follow the Vegas model of FA and trade acquisitions since his drafting has had slow results. He has to field a competitive team to fill the seats at the Dough.

Larkin’s timing is way off. Raymond and he aren’t clicking, but I fully expect this to resolve. I also think Compher will be the best number 2 center … and I feel he will help create space for Kane and VT.

Petry has looked better. I may be the only person besides his dad saying that. If he is indeed sharper this year it will help a ton.
