1. If we have learned anything from UFA season is that Tavares only takes under 5mil to be a best boy of all time and help the Leafs. He has 7mil reasons per year to sign anywhere else.
2. Who knows? People taking discounts in the league is rare. People taking discounts on the Leafs is lololololololol
3. He might just not fit in with the team anymore despite his talent depending on where they are next season. They might want to re-tool for speed or youth or something.

It's possible. He probably wants a cup more than a few more millions at this point.

If he truly believes it can happen in Toronto, he'll take a significant discount imho.

Or he's a snake and signs for a few millions more in Nashville like every 30+ UFA these days.

I wanted Bennett so badly when he was basically kicked out of Calgary by idiot Sutter.

I dont think there is any chance JT signs somewhere else other then the Leafs. The Leafs shouldnt even consider 5M. Id imagine 3.75M-4.5m range
