I say ASP should don a Wings jersey beginning next season. Who agrees?

I thought it was dumb for ASP to start the season in Sweden again. He needs to play in North Amerca and get accustomed to the game over here. I read that Wings management wanted Nygaard to start in GR this year as well... but he didn't want to do it which is kind of a red flag for me. What's his reasoning ? These guys need to step out of their comfort zones and play in the AHL... we don't needa anymore "over ripe" prospects. This team needs to get better and younger right now.

It took some weird turns. After the draft, he was already going to be playing in the SHL. ASP wanted another year over there but both signed (thankfully). The rookie week caused some of the office to think MBN may have a shot at the main roster. Once it came down to GR or Sweden (he was already signed, but they did a special allowance for him to miss the start of the season) he and his “team” decided SHL. I know at least one of the regular press who wanted ASP here, I wanted him here too. He needs some weight. You’ve seen the AHL guys run the Euros for fun. Still wish they were both here but they’re getting time in together and ASP can work on his D zone play. Not ideal, but that’s how I heard it broken down.

Ny-guy is only 18, he was already all set up in Sweden where initially the Wings wanted him there. Not wise to push an 18 yr old into a new culture before he is ready.

I’m fine with where he’s at. He wasn’t originally going to be over for main camp (like ASP). There was something they liked and wanted to take another look. Luckily he doesn’t need to put on a bunch of lbs. i really like ASP’s shot, pass and skating. If he comes over they need to get serious about a left side solid partner for him

Tomas Tatar was 18 when he went to GR... he was drafted at 60th in his draft class and not projected to have as high a ceiling as Nygaard (1st round, 15th overall). While he's still young... he's not too young IMO. I want to see what he can do in the AHL. I don't think it's too early given his skillset. The players in this league are getting younger. It's not 1995 anymore. Time to let the kids play.
