I really think if you give them another couple of games together, that 2nd line of Slaf - Evans - Newhook could start producing.

I expected it to happen eventually.

Although I did expect Joshua Roy to be the guy called up, not Condotta.

Yeah, they called him up twice, they probably don't want to break the chemistry in Laval and just want to call up a guy that won't play.

Same here, but I think they really wanted him to learn a lesson, and this another way of them doing so. I hope it works, and we get a more dedicated and focused Roy out of it

I don't mind them taking their time with him.

He'll be a NHL player down the line, of that I'm convinced.

He's also their best forward prospect currently in Laval.

Same here. And I have no doubt he will be an NHL'er as well. Just needs to focus on giving a consistent effort.

AgrEEd.

Also, on Gallagher... the thing I noticed is that he is skating a lot better this year. He was never the fastest player, but now he is skating with the transition, not struggling to stay with it, which allows him to position better for plays (ie: like the goal he scored).

He is also not a liability on the backcheck.

So, not prime Gallagher (understatement), but a welcome resurgence for a player that maybe has a lot more to offer than anyone expected.

Yeah, I expect when they call him up, it is because they believe he will stick and contribute.

So spending more time in Laval is not a bad thing.

His shot looks better as well. Maybe his hands injuries don't bother him as much as they used to.

nothing to add really.
slowly but surely Dach is finding his game.

also Habs should shop Newhook, if not now at the tdl. his value will never be higher since I fully expect him to play on the 3rd line (with no PP time) starting next season.

I think we got our hopes up in the off season.
Last year when CC came back after missing half a season and surgery we were all down on him as he didnt produce as we had hoped but look at him now, having a great season.
Dach missed the full year and had surgery yet we somehow thought he'd step right in and be better than he was 2 years ago. What if Dach NEEDS this year to get his game back and next year he breaks out a la CC this year.
Laine was brought in and we all started drooling about our 2nd line and how it would take pressure off the first and we'd have 2 scoring lines. Somehow we werent sure what Laine would bring after missing most of last year, but were willing to let him find his stride. Wish we could give Dach the same patience.
So Dach is finding his game and Laine got injured so there goes the 2nd line. Are we seriously surprised by the results so far??!!
The D is still young and will make mistakes but what if, what iff the new "system" they are learning is a little difficult to learn BUT will payoff by the time we actually have forwards and not just a 1st line and 3 3rd lines.
I am willing to endure this year and next year....hopefully we can add a Demidov, have Hage get his feet wet, and maybe Laine for his last year.
I wasnt expecting this rebuild to be over quickly but it is heading in the right direction. IF our D can get this new system to work and we can add some talent up front then in a year or 2 we shiould have a team that can compete every year.
Who knows we might have to wait for Fowler for us to be competitive.
The oieces are looking good we just need to find where they go and then we will see the full picture.
I expect this year and maybe next to be painful. Unless we can find a few UFAs willing to sign here that might accelerate the process, but id prefer we grow our team ourselves and work with the cap to maybe be able to have a great team together for a few years and not be stuck finding mercenaries every year.

I expected this year to be somewhat painful, but still see some advances / positives.

I also had expectations that next year, with clearing out more contracts, we might see a real upswing in this team... but I am not so sure anymore. There will be a lot of younger forwards and unless team defense/goaltending gets significantly better, next year might be a long season too.
